(I have been remiss in doing these this year. Stay tuned to meet the whole crew over the next few weeks)

I would like to introduce Kole to everyone.

Kole started with us in 2023 and has been a great addition! Kole grew up locally and graduated from City High School in 2017. Kole has worked at several landscaping companies locally and brings a lot of experience to our team.

Kole always has a smile, and does a meticulous job. I am sure many of you have met Kole over the last few months and several of you have commented on his personality and work ethic to me. If you see him, please introduce yourself.

One of Kole’s life goals is to become a police officer and he has his application out there. I would hate to lose him but wish him well in pursuit of his goals.

Sharp Lawns has been based in Lone Tree since its inception in 2014. We have always given veterans and Gold Star families 10% off all services.

If you have never been to Lone Tree it is a great small community with lots of parks for the kids. One thing the city, residents and American Legion has always done is show its colors on National Holidays. The display silently observed for a few minutes, will make you appreciate the long weekend all the more.

These pictures do not do justice to the display of flags in the City. Come down this weekend and appreciate the sights and honor the Veterans who gave everything they could for us.

Sharp Lawns is hiring individuals to mow lawns for us! Start at $16 an hour. Once you are on your own earn up to $19.50 if you hit performance goals.

Must have a valid driver's license and get the nod from our insurance company. Must be in physically good enough shape to work all day with mowers, trimmers, backpack blowers, etc.

We are a small company growing fast. This position will get 30+ hours a week (weather permitting).

Yesterday the 4" soil temperature was 47*! Once it hits 50-55 consistently the magic happens!

We are also in a pretty good spot with soil moisture. The link below is to the Iowa DNR water report. We received 0.71" above normal rain for March which helps a lot after a drier than normal February.

We are continuing with yard clean-ups, aeration, and edging. We anticipate mowing in a week or two as warmer temps arrive.

Dave Willoughby is an integral part of Sharp Lawns. Dave has been a mechanic most of his life. He has the ability to listen or look at something and diagnose it instantly.

Part MacGuver, with a bit of knowledge in numerous areas and a lifetime of experience to back it up, Dave is a true Renaissance Man. Keeping our equipment going through breakdowns and regular maintenance is not an easy task, yet he does it well and keeps me sane through all the trials and tribulations.

We appreciate you more than you know Dave! Now, if we can only get you to stop working for 5 seconds to look at the camera...

Levi Sherod

Levi was hired full-time in 2019 and has been an absolute treasure for us! Hard-working, dependable, meticulous, and a genuinely nice guy. Levi is easy to spot as he always has a smile, or a grin, on his face and is the skinniest of us by far!

Levi graduated High School in 2020 and is a New Year’s Day baby. He enjoys riding his motorcycle and wants to be a realtor. Levi is only one or two certifications away from being licensed and we are extremely excited to see him pursue and accomplish a dream.

We are unbelievably blessed to have employees like Levi who not only care about their work but show up every day and work hard. Levi, should you ever change your mind there is always a place here for you!

The last three days of 50* temperature in the soil at the 4" mark generally means things are growing. However, another cool week may put a damper on that.

It will be cold enough over the next few days that you will want to cover any fragile plants if you have them out already.

We are still accepting new customers for regular mowing, and always have room for weeks you don't feel like it, vacations, etc.

We are starting to check properties and mow this week. With all the rain, and 4" soil temperatures flirting with 50* the grass will be entering its Spring growth spurt very soon.

Sharp Lawns, a small landscaping company, is looking for seasonal help beginning around April 1st, 2020!

Job responsibilities are; fueling and maintaining vehicles and equipment, setting up equipment at the job site, performing tasks at the job site after proper training. Duties typically include mowing, trimming, mulch installation, trimming of bushes and shrubs, hauling waste to the landfill, etc. (Typical landscaping duties). We also do snow, so winter positions may be available.

This position is seasonal; running from April 1st - ?? (Typically we are winding down for the season in October/November). The ideal applicant needs a valid driver’s license and preferably the ability to pull and back in a trailer (not required). If you do not have a license we may be able to work something out just ask! The job requires moderate physical activity and working outdoors.

The beginning wage is $12 an hour with no experience. More for the right candidate. Supervisor positions are available by end of year/next year.

Applicants must be reliable. Schedules are typically Monday-Friday, daytime hours. Some weekend work depending on the weather. Overtime paid for over 40 hours per week.
