“I love playing Weber’s works for clarinet! Weber was primarily known as an opera composer, but he absolutely loved the clarinet, and that shows in the depth of his care in writing his solo clarinet works.

He really tries to take advantage of operatic writing in this piece: you’ll hear the clarinet take on the role of different singers, but also the DRAMA! He takes advantage of both the clarinet’s full expressive range and also its virtuosic possibilities.

This Concerto No. 2 is probably his most single beloved piece for clarinetists. Even though it’s written originally for clarinet and orchestra, this arrangement for solo clarinet and band is super effective. The band has the vital role of enhancing the drama throughout the whole piece, including taking on some beautiful solo moments themselves, too! I can’t wait for this concert!!”
