Garden to Farm

Even with the great pumpkin shortage at the end of the season, we have still been successful. This year has been a feast of Apples and Pumpkins! So many volunteers and donations. Thanks to the communities for repurposing produce to help our little farming communities. 🍏🍏🍏 Peachy Farm is one of my favorite places as they are a farm animal rescue.

That time of year! I’m starting to collect produce donations for the small local farms. Please message for drop off and save your neighbors from hiding from you and your zucchini’s!

So today I am starting my mung bean jars. If you are into microgreens or sprouts this is an inexpensive way to make your very own sprout jars. You can find a variety of sprout jars on Amazon (they vary in prices from $15.00 and up - that includes one to two jars, the lids and stands). But why spend that much when you can make so many more for much less? You can use plastic canvas sheets (found in the needle work section of stores like Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc.). I prefer the plastic canvas because you can easily wipe down or place in dishwasher (or soak in warm water) and reuse. However you can use a variety of different materials like a metal screen, window screen material or cheesecloth. If you are cautious about plastic materials use an alternative (the metal will begin to rust after a couple of uses). I spent $2.89 for a pack of 6, at Walmart, for the plastic canvas sheets.
