Been teaching this song to an ensemble I run at over the past few months and consequently it’s been stuck in my head ever since. What better way to get a song out of your head than to play it, right?
I don’t like to use the word “perfect” when describing a piece of art, but “A Thousand Miles” by Vanessa Carlton may just have to be one of the few exceptions. The melody. The chords. The incredible arrangement. THE RIFF. Everything about this song just works. Change one thing and it would be diminished.
Needless to say I pleasantly surprised when the students in my band asked to learn it! Happy to see that amazing pop music like this is still getting passed down to the younger generations.
Thank you for writing an absolute banger of a tune 🙏 Bonus points for giving the key of B major some much needed love 🎹

I’m really proud of this one. It took a lot of work to get this song from a single lyric idea that popped into my head all the way to a fully realized studio recording, but I’m super happy with how it all came together and can’t wait to share it with you on Friday!
