King of the Hammers (KOH) is an extreme off-road racing and rock crawling event held every year in late January and early February on Means Dry Lake in Johnson Valley, California. Known as the “”toughest off-road race on earth,”” it blends high-speed desert racing with brutal, technical rock crawling.
We had the privelege to attend a few years back and here’s a highlight!

To install your Walker Evans 2.5” Reservoir Caps, following these steps:
1. Remove the allen screw in the reservoir cap
2. Remove the nitrogen from the shock using a needle or an 1/8”” Drill bit if you do not intend to keep the stock reservoir cap. (NOTE: The shock is under pressure there may also be a small amount of oil.)
3. Push down on the reservoir cap until it goes into the reservoir. You may need to tap on the reservoir cap with a deadblow hammer.
4. Remove the circlip that retains the reservoir cap.
5. Replace the screw into the cap only a few turns.
6. Using a pair of pliers, grab the cap screw and remove the stock reservoir cap. (NOTE: A small amount of oil in the reservoir is normal but if you have a large amount your shock is probably blown and needs a service.)
7. Push the new reservoir cap into the reservoir and replace the circlip.
8. Charge shock to 190 PSI with nitrogen.
9. Repeat the process on all shocks. (NOTE: Local shops should be able to recharge your shocks with nitrogen. This must be done while the shock is at full extension. You can get by with air if you need but this is not a long term solution. Nitrogen behaves differently than air at different altitudes and temperatures.

“We just went out and drove it around and came back and threw a tape on it again. That adjustment in the rear that we made brought it up almost two inches. We want to come a little bit more because we want to hit that 13 or 13 and a half to 14 range. So we’re going to lift it back up. When we did that though, obviously as you raise the back, it brought our front down, but our front, I would say is still just a tiny bit high. So this round we’re going to do, probably, you know, four to six turns of preload in the rear and we’ll probably take a turn, maybe two turns out of the front. There’s not a whole lot of preload in the front right now. It probably only has maybe a half an inch of preload. So we’re going to take some of that out and then we’re going to put say six turns in the rear and then go try it. And we should be really close at that. And at that point, we’ll be able to set that crossover distance and a good starting point for that crossover distance. We’ll show you is four and a half inches, and that’s a good just beginning point.
From there, you’ll be able to tune your bottoming resistance by moving that crossover closer or farther away, but we’ll go over that next.” —
