Thanks for spreading the love! 💞
Enrichment for animals in captivity is very important for both physical and mental health. There are 5 types of enrichment:
• Social (Interactions with same specie or different species, including humans)
•Sensory (Stimulates senses)
•Environmental (Things in there habitat such as decks, pools, substrates, or arranging things differently)
• Nutritional (Foraging activities meant to extend the feeding time)
• Occupational/Cognitive (Meant to encourage problem solving and mental stimulation)
Providing enrichment is enrichment for humans because not only does it bring joy to the animals, but to us too! Seeing them be playful and silly, figuring out a problem, or showing us natural behaviors is one of the more rewarding parts of the job. This will definitely be a series because there’s many forms of enrichment for each animal!

Kuma the black bear-26 years old. He mostly stays in the den in winter but today he was out in his hammock. Can you see how much he wants to attack me in those last 2 pics? 😳 Shout out to .wojo who made hammocks for our bear, tiger, cougar, and lynx. These were made from donated firehose. Our animals love them!
We had our last two photography sessions of the month today! Luckily New Lenox city workers had brought us a fresh doe that had been hit by a car, which was perfect for Amow and Luna during the photoshoot.
If you missed our January photography sessions, fear not! We will be posting some dates for February as well. Keep a lookout for those! 🐺📸❄️
Nova was determined to cache that hunk of meat in a good spot so Tikaani couldn’t find it (he did, in fact, find it) 🐺🥩
A sleepy, snowy Tikaani 😴🐺
Just our turkey grooming the pig 🤣. It’s so nice to have a friend 💕.
