Diamond went back to her kennel today. 💔

For several nights, Diamond got to experience something she has never known: a home.

The last place Diamond lived wasn’t really a home at all. She spent her life confined to a basement kennel, only brought out when she was used for breeding. She was emaciated, covered in scars and cigarette burns. When she came to us, we knew she deserved so much more than that. Unfortunately she’s still with us 256 days later🥺

On her sleepover, Diamond showed us exactly who she is when given the chance.

She became the ultimate house hippo. She claimed her spot on the couch, accepted every snuggle offered, nibbled happily at her kibble, snoozed peacefully, and enjoyed the simple pleasure of going outside in a fenced yard to do her business. She soaked up every bit of love she could find.

And the best part? Diamond doesn’t ask for much.

She doesn’t need fancy adventures or endless excitement. Diamond dreams of a safe, cozy home where she can finally relax and know she belongs. A soft couch, a comfy bed, and people to love her are all she really wants. She’s a lazy person’s dream dog!

A home with children would be a huge bonus! More hands for head pats, more laps for leaning on, and more people to adore her. She absolutely lights up around people and wants nothing more than to be part of a family. The ONLY restriction she has is she needs a home with no other animals!

After everything she’s been through, it’s time for Diamond to stop visiting homes and finally have one of her own.

Diamond’s adoption fee is sponsored, so she’s also free!🤑

If you’d like to meet Diamond, please contact us or stop in!

Meet Otis 🐶💗

Otis arrived at HumaneCNY today as a stray, and his condition is a heartbreaking reminder of the stray animal crisis facing our community.

This sweet, older Boxer mix is missing patches of fur, his nails are so overgrown that he can barely walk comfortably, he has conjunctivitis, scars covering his legs, and his nose is so crusted that it caused his upper lip to partially split open. No dog should have to endure this.

Sadly, Otis is not alone. Every day, shelters across the country, and especially here in Syracuse, are seeing more animals arrive in desperate need of medical care, nourishment, and compassion. The stray population continues to grow, while shelters work tirelessly to keep up with the need.

Today, we are just grateful that Otis is safe.

Because of your support, donations, shares, and encouragement, we are able to give dogs like Otis a second chance. Without our community standing behind us, stories like his would have a very different ending.

Otis will be receiving plenty of much needed TLC and will be examined by our veterinarian so we can determine exactly what he needs to feel his best again. Once he’s feeling better and medically cleared, he will be available for adoption!🥰

For now, we hope you’ll join us in welcoming Otis to the HumaneCNY family and cheering him on as he begins his journey toward healing.❤️

🥓🍳 Meet Bacon & Eggs! 🍳🥓

These two handsome grey-and-white boys are 2 years old and looking for loving forever homes! While they look very similar, Eggs is the fluffier one with the longer hair.

Bacon and Eggs were abandoned and brought to HumaneCNY by SPD. When they first arrived, they were understandably very scared after everything they’d been through. Thanks to lots of patience, love, and care, they’ve made amazing progress! ❤️

These sweet boys are slowly coming out of their shells and have discovered that people aren’t so scary after all. They now enjoy gentle pets, playing, and are continuing to gain confidence every day.

They can be adopted together or separately, so whether you’re looking for one new best friend or two new best friends, these boys are ready to meet you!

📍 Visit them in our Community Room at HumaneCNY!

🐾 Meet Grape – Your New Best Friend! 🍇

Looking for a loyal, loving companion? Meet Grape, a handsome 1-year-old mixed-breed boy weighing just 27 pounds. He's the perfect size for adventures, cuddles, and everything in between!

Grape is a social butterfly who loves people, children, and other dogs. Whether he's meeting new friends at the park or relaxing at home, he thrives in social settings. In fact, he recently attended Bark in the Park at the Mets Stadium, where he happily mingled with large crowds and handled all the excitement like a champ!

This sweet boy is smart and eager to learn. He is currently working on his potty training and is highly treat-motivated, making training fun and rewarding. Grape already knows how to sit on command, understands the words "no" and "outside," and walks politely on the left side of his handler while on leash.

Grape loves his chew toys and stays happily occupied with them. As long as he has a toy to enjoy, he leaves household items alone. He also enjoys long walks, exploring the world through his nose, and even stopping to smell the flowers along the way.

If you're looking for a friendly, affectionate dog who will bring joy, companionship, and plenty of smiles to your life, Grape may be the perfect match.

Grape is in a foster home and requires an approved application to meet him!

🐾 We are SO full at HumaneCNY! 🐾

Our cat rooms are overflowing, and we currently have several wonderful cats waiting in our back area because we simply don’t have enough space in our public viewing room. They’ll hopefully be moved up front as cages become available, but if you’d like to meet one of these special cats, just ask our front desk!

🖤 Q-Bert
12 weeks old | Male
This adorable black-and-white kitten wandered onto someone’s porch looking for love. Thankfully, he was rescued from life outside and is now safe with us! Q-Bert is sweet, playful, and everything you’d want in a kitten.

🌯 Chimichanga
1 year old | Male
Chimichanga was abandoned in terrible conditions inside an apartment before being rescued by Dog Control and brought to HumaneCNY. Despite his rough start, he’s a friendly, affectionate boy who’s ready to find the loving home he deserves.

🧡 Suki
2 years old | Female
Suki is a beautiful calico who was sadly surrendered to us. She’s calm, incredibly friendly, and has the SOFTEST fur you’ll ever pet! She can’t wait to trade her shelter cage for a cozy forever home.

🖤 Misty
10 years old | Female
Misty is a gorgeous all-black senior whose owner sadly passed away. Shelter life has been especially hard on her—she’s very shy, isn’t eating well, and would truly benefit from getting into a quiet home as soon as possible. Even though she’s scared, she’s still gentle and enjoys affection when given time and patience.

These four cats each have their own unique personalities, ages, and stories, but they all have one thing in common—they’re looking for someone to love them. Could that be you? ❤️

From the city of Syracuse. Cute as can be puppy who loves to follow her mom Charmaine everywhere!💗

🐾 LONG-TERM RESIDENT SPOTLIGHTS 🐾

We have some incredible cats at HumaneCNY who have been waiting far too long to find their forever families. Could you help us change that?

🧡 Bao Bao
9 years old | 46 days in our care

Bao Bao is a big orange sweetheart who loves people and gets along wonderfully with other cats. He came to us after being surrendered by his owner. While he may be a senior, he’s still full of love, fun, and personality. He’s currently receiving a full health workup and is ready to find a loving home.

🐱 Neo
2½ years old | 59 days in our care

Neo is a devoted companion who would happily follow you around the house all day. He is FIV-positive, but cats with FIV can live long, happy lives in safe indoor homes. FIV is only transmitted through deep bite wounds, making many FIV-positive cats excellent companions for other friendly cats. Neo came to us when his previous owner was overwhelmed with too many pets.

💙 Martin
13 years old | 61 days in our care

If you’ve followed our page, you’ve probably met Martin. This sweet, talkative senior has captured all of our hearts. Martin prefers calmer companions and would likely thrive as an only pet or with other laid-back animals. He was surrendered when his owner could no longer afford his care. Martin does have some age-related stomach issues that are well managed and can be discussed with interested adopters.

😺 George
5 years old | 106 days in our care

George is one of our most beloved cats. He adores people, loves other cats, and keeps everyone entertained. Like Neo, George is FIV-positive and would do wonderfully with another friendly feline companion. Formerly a stray, he sports those adorable tomcat cheeks that make him impossible to resist.

🖤 Forklift
1 year old | 113 days in our care

Forklift is our second-longest resident and is still waiting for his chance. This handsome black cat has feline asthma and anxiety, both of which are successfully managed by our care team. He is affectionate, confident, and excellent at communicating his boundaries. Forklift came to us after being removed from an unsuitable living situation and deserves a stable, loving home where he can finally thrive.

🎀 Leah
10 months old | 130 days in our care

Leah is a playful young girl with endless energy and a love for fun. She enjoys the company of other playful cats and would thrive in a home where she has a feline friend to wrestle and chase toys with. While Leah isn’t the biggest fan of sitting still for pets, she’s always ready for playtime and will happily show off her silly, active personality. She’s been waiting far too long for someone to appreciate her for exactly who she is.

🌟 George
3 years old | 333 days in our care

Our longest resident has waited nearly a year for a family of his own. George was rescued from a trailer fire alongside more than 20 other cats—all of whom have since been adopted. He has kidney disease that requires a special diet, but that doesn’t stop him from enjoying life. George is shy, gentle, loves lickable treats, and spends his days lounging in his private suite. We know the right person is out there for him.

These precious boys—and Leah—have waited long enough. They deserve loving homes where they can feel safe, comfortable, and cherished for the rest of their lives.

Please share this post and help us find their families. Their people are out there somewhere—we just need your help connecting them.
