Happy Halloween!
Keep your animals safe this Halloween. Put a gate at the door to keep them from escaping or jumping on trick or treaters. Another variation is to remove the screen/glass from your storm door so you don't have to open it at all.
The visitors, masks and excitement might be too much for your pet. Consider putting them in a safe place away from the action

Time to prepare to keep your pets safe on Halloween.
Identification tags. Your pet has many opportunities to escape. Be sure to have current ID and contact info on them.
Prepare a place in the house where they feel safe and away from the action. Trick or treaters can be scary.
Limit their time outside. There are a lot of trick or treaters and others wandering the neighborhood. That can cause a lot of anxiety.

Please allow me to introduce myself
My name is Sadie. I am 9 months old and weigh 44 pounds. I am a girl. I like playing with dogs that like to play. Lazy dogs find me annoying. I have never met a cat
Here's the deal straight up so we don't make another mistake and send me to the wrong home again cuz I have done that already many times. My first home in Texas said I was incorrigible, whatever that means, and threw me right over the fence and told me never come back. I cracked my skull when I landed but other than a stuffy nose for a bit, I healed OK. My head stayed a little wonky and my eyelids droop, but my brain wasn't harmed.
Here is what you need to know - I have a lot of energy and need to channel that somewhere so if you don't keep me busy I will find things to do myself. I love using my nose and can find squirrels, birds and butterflies and if you are on the other end of the leash when I do, you better hold on tight. I have actually caught some! They say if you take me to school, I can learn not to take you hunting with me.
You need to have a garden hose. I love getting soaked with the hose and chasing the water. You also need to have a car and take me for rides - I am actually quite well behaved in the car. I believe all pillows were put here for me and I will take them off your bed and couch for my own comfort. I am a big help in the kitchen and will pre-wash your dishes for you and keep your counters free of food. I also think my fur is beautiful and I share it willingly on your pants, rug and furniture so you can be pretty too.
I am a happy girl and will bring so much joy and laughter in your life. I do everything with my whole heart. I play hard and I love hard.
Please share my story so I can find someone with enough time and energy to keep up with me. Someone to take me to school might help me understand what humans want me to do would be great! And buy your raffle tickets so you can win a prize and these fun people here will have enough money to keep helping dogs like me. https://www.helpinghoundsdogrescue.org/raffles

Back to school supplies are very tempting to curious pets.
Keep your pets (and small children) safe.

The heat is no joke. It could mean death for your pets.
Keep your pets cool, with no exertion. If you suspect heat stroke try to get them to drink lots of water. Cool them by wetting them down with cool water (not ice cold). If symptoms continue, call your vet immediately.

It’s better to keep your dog calm rather than have to calm him down. Start before the storm begins with a few drops of calming essential oils like Lavender, Cedarwood or Peace & Calming (a YL blend) or supplements like melatonin or L theanine.

Before the storm begins, bring your dog into a room. If you can stay with the dog, that’s even better. Be sure that the windows are blocked so they can’t see flashes of light. Turn on the TV or music to help drown out the sounds. Settle in and relax.

Another variation is to prepare a place where your dog feels safe. (Where do they hide during a storm?) For example: fix up their crate with a soft bed, cover the crate with a blanket that will block out light and dampen the sound. Dogs often feel safer in a small place. That’s why they hide when they are scared.

Essential oils are highly concentrated. Only use one drop per 10 lbs of dog with a max of 5 drops for large dogs. Please note that quality of essential oil is important. There are many on the market that are inferior at best. Do your homework. I use Young Living. It's been my experience that it is more effective, and I use less oil to get better results. As with anything, a dog can have an allergic reaction. Watch them for any new symptoms. Call your vet if there are any new symptoms. I am not prescribing or diagnosing. Call your vet with any questions.
