Phillips Flips

Renovating our kitchen was one of the first things we did when we moved into this house, but I’ve been holding off on the kitchen backsplash and these open shelves because we have plans to add onto the house and move the window above the sink. I finally decided that just because I don’t want to spend money on real tile and new shelves, that doesn’t mean that I can’t put some low-cost temporary finishes on this space. First up, stick-on tile backsplash from Amazon for $30! Next up: painting those cabinets!

Happy early from the newly painted front door! Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a good dark house. I’ve painted one of our houses dark grey and another one straight black, but this house has SO much roof and nearly the entire front face of the house is under a shaded overhang, so it just needed to be lighter. We went with greige since we have new white windows that we didn’t want to paint and today we painted the door black! What’s your favorite light or dark houses?

Let there be light! We finally bought and installed a light where the capped chandelier placeholder was over our dining room table. Swipe for the before!

We’ve got faux concrete vibes on this little accent wall made with some extra white satin paint and a bad batch of watered down flat black paint. I wanted to break up the mostly white walls with something different here and this was just the thing!

I was just looking back on some of our old houses today. I love seeing the “afters”. These houses were foreclosed, rundown, with broken windows, active leaks, dangerous old electric wiring and so much more that we had to work through. But there is definitely something to be said for breathing new life into old run-down spaces. Which of these is your favorite “after” photo?

First camping trip of 2023 is in the books! Had a blast with some friends at the Spirit of the Suwannee Campground. (Note to self: campgrounds with golf carts to rent are the best!)

For anyone following my stories today, I decided to just keep painting (since I couldn’t return the paint, I figured I’d at least make sure I hated it before I got a new color). It is a little darker than I had originally planned, but it’s not as bad now that the whole room is painted. Ledger loved it and he was excited to have all of his cars on the wall.
