Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce that all enslaved people were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality and justice for all.

Denver Seminary is committed to forming leaders who reflect the diversity of the Church and who engage the work of justice and reconciliation with theological depth and courage.

"Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow." Isaiah 1:17

Catherine Romero was volunteering at a maximum-security women's prison when she sensed God calling her into full-time prison ministry. After more than 20 years away from school, returning felt overwhelming. But she was confident in that calling.

Seminary didn't just prepare her professionally. It grounded her faith and formed her to serve people of all faiths. Today she's chaplain at two correctional facilities.

"It is the most challenging and rewarding work I have ever done, and I know I would not have been prepared for this calling without my seminary education."

Catherine earned her Professional Chaplaincy Certification. Whether God is calling you into chaplaincy, pastoral ministry, counseling, or leadership, Denver Seminary offers programs designed to form you for that specific calling: https://denverseminary.edu/academics/

What a week at Denver Seminary!

From the Shannon Preaching Lectureship—where pastors gathered to dive deep into Scripture—to PhD students immersed in summer intensives, and summer courses in full swing, our campus was alive with learning and purpose. Our board of trustees met to help shape the future of our seminary, and we ended the week with a vibrant community lunch, bringing students, faculty, staff, and board members together around shared tables.

Weeks like this remind us why Denver Seminary is unique: here, theological depth and authentic community are woven together in every experience.

Thank you to everyone who poured their energy, wisdom, and heart into making last week so meaningful. This is what it looks like when a community pursues Christ’s calling together.

The Book of Acts is full of moments where the Holy Spirit moves, communities are transformed, and the gospel takes root in unexpected places.

This week at the 2026 Shannon Preaching Lectureship, ministry leaders got to sit with those passages to study them deeply and carefully together. One participant captured the experience well: "You've got background, you've got layers, and then it just keeps coming back to Acts and what God is doing."

We're grateful for the scholars, preachers, and ministry leaders who made this year's lectureship such a rich experience.

This year's commencement held a moment we won't soon forget:

Jeremy and Adie Camp led the Class of 2026 in worship.

And then Adie crossed the stage as a graduate herself, earning her Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies.

She sat down with us to share what brought her to Denver Seminary and what she found here.

"Say yes. It's gonna be hard, it's gonna be stretching, but go for it."

Thank you, Jeremy and Adie Camp, for leading us in worship and for sharing this day with us. Congratulations, Adie.
