Ten years after Pulse shooting, survivors continue turning unimaginable grief into action The Advocate spoke with four survivors who dedicated their lives to changing the world since a gunman killed 49 people in the Orlando nightclub mass shooting.

Today we remember our 49 siblings that lost their lives at the Pulse nightclub on June 12, 2016. It’s been 10 years since our siblings danced and held joy with each other on ‘Latin Night’ before being violently attacked.
Today we honor our siblings many of whom were Latinx, lost to systemic discrimination. A reminder that our joy is a threat to the system.

Last night, Christopher Hansen a survivor of the Pulse attack organized Reflections of Resilience. A space where other survivors could share their stories, poems and words of encouragement followed by the lighting of the Big Damn Bridge. We are deeply appreciative of Chris for their advocacy, holding this space and refusing to let society forget!

Hoy recordamos a nuestres 49 hermanes que perdieron la vida en la discoteca Pulse el 12 de junio de 2016. Han pasado 10 años desde que nuestres hermanes bailaron y compartieron su alegría en la Noche Latina antes de ser víctimas de un ataque violento. Hoy rendimos homenaje a nuestres hermanes , muchos de elles latinx, que perdieron la vida a causa de la discriminación sistémica. Un recordatorio de que nuestra alegría es una amenaza para el sistema.

Anoche, Christopher Hansen, un sobreviviente del ataque al Pulse, organizó Reflexiones de Resiliencia. Un espacio en el que otros sobrevivientes pudieron compartir sus historias, poemas y mensajes de apoyo, después de iluminar el Big Damn Bridge. ¡Estamos profundamente agradecidos a Chris por su liderazgo, por crear este espacio y por negarse a dejar que la sociedad olvide!
