June is National Safety Month. If we only focused on incidents, we'd miss many opportunities to improve. Learning doesn’t come only from failures, but it also comes from understanding success.

This month, we’re reinforcing a culture of learning:
• Sharing good catches and near misses
• Talking openly about challenges in the field
• Learning from everyday work, not just incidents
• Supporting each other without blame

While traveling between sites, one of our crews noticed a man lying in his yard and stopped to check on him. Their quick thinking and willingness to step in made all the difference. We’re proud of this team for going beyond the job and looking out for the community around them!

“Thursday, 3/19/2026 at 11:07 am, bucket crew 815091 (Kaiden Clayborn, Mickeal Vanderpool, and Jacob Campbell) were traveling in our work area. While driving down a paved county road, they noticed a 90-year-old gentleman laying in his yard. The crew stopped and checked on the welfare of the individual. When they approached the gentleman, he was partially unresponsive, pale, and not responding normally. The crew used the gentleman's home phone and contacted me to advise me of the situation. After receiving the information from the crew, I advised them to stay with the gentleman till myself or emergency personal arrived on scene. (...) I arrived on scene just prior to the ambulance arriving. At that time, I had the bucket crew go on about their day and continue work. When I arrived, the gentleman was responding normally and was saying he had woken up to the bucket crew checking on him. The Ems then began their evaluation of the gentleman, and it was determined he was having a heart attack. At that time, the Ems crew requested an air ambulance to respond to get the gentleman to the level of care he was needing. They asked if crew members could assist in setting up the landing zone. Myself and 3 crew members (Josh Smith, Jeromie Ward, and Austin Norman) nearby set the landing zone up for the gentleman. (...) The family was very grateful for the bucket crews quick thinking and help throughout the incident.”
