When we think about spaying or neutering our pets, preventing surprise litters and keeping shelter intakes low are usually the first things that come to mind. But taking this step does so much more for your family:

Happy ! Meet Magic, the 3-year-old void who is actively disproving every superstitious black cat myth in existence. 🐈‍⬛✨

Magic didn't end up at the shelter through any fault of his own, but he is guilty of being an absolute lovebug.

Ginger arrived at Little Elm Animal Shelter as a stray with what appeared to be an old, long-healed leg injury. A loving adopter quickly jumped at the chance to give her a home when nobody came to claim her. However, follow-up care revealed that her injuries were more extensive than anyone expected and required care beyond what her adopter could take on. Wanting the best for her, they brought her back to the shelter so she could get the specialized medical care she truly needed.

When the extent of her needs became clear, FLEAS stepped up to sponsor a comprehensive workup. What the x-rays revealed was heartbreaking: BOTH of Ginger's hind legs had suffered severe traumatic injuries—likely from being hit by a car long before she ever reached us.

We knew we had to act fast to give her real relief, so we reached out to the miracle workers at Atlas Pet Vets —the same incredible team that helped write Elda’s miraculous recovery story.

On July 22nd, Ginger underwent a successful FHO surgery to relieve the constant, bone-on-bone pain in her hip. She’s now resting comfortably with her loving medical foster!

But her journey isn't over. To fix her second leg, we’re preparing for a complex, specialized procedure that even involves custom, cutting-edge planning with experts across the pond in the UK. 🌐✨

We may never know Ginger’s full story, when her accident happened, or how she endured that fear and pain without medical care. We only know that her body fought to heal on its own—imperfectly, but with an unbelievable strength that kept her going.

We can't change her past, but together, we can give her a pain-free future.
