Big news from the fields at Friendly Roots: our strawberry plants just arrived! πŸ“ We're getting them tucked into the ground this week, which means sweet, sun-ripened strawberries are on the way for next season. Good things take patience (and a little dirt under the fingernails) β€” we can't wait to share the harvest with you! β€” Farmer Sam & his crew

Radish season is here, and these red veggies are ready for the taking! Sliced thin on buttered toast, tossed in a crisp spring salad, or eaten plain on your ride home from the farm 😎 Red radishes are one of those simple joys of summer!

Got garlic sitting on your counter? Here's the easiest way to use a whole head at once:

Peel off the loose papery outer layers, slice the top off, drizzle with olive oil, wrap in foil, and roast at 400Β° for 40 minutes. Squeeze the cloves out like toothpaste and spread on bread, stir into mashed potatoes, or mix into softened butter for garlic bread that'll ruin store-bought forever.

Every year thousands of tons of topsoil wash into the nations rivers and out into the ocean. Unfortunately, in many cases the person who should care the most (the farmer) thinks it is normal and unavoidable.

🌱 Here at Friendly Roots we protect against erosion in a couple ways:
#1 is having a healthy soil. Soil where biology and minerals are balanced will not be nearly as susceptible to erosion.
#2 is having the soil covered as much as possible, either with growing plants, compost, or mulch.
#3 is having living roots in the soil as much as possible. This holds the soil in place as well as promoting the first two rules, the leaves provide protection from sun and rain and generate sugars that feed biology which in turn make minerals available to the plant.

Cantaloupe is back at the stand!!!

There's nothing like the smell of a cantaloupe that actually ripened in the field instead of a warehouse. Ready to be sliced up the second you get it home. Grown without chemicals, Friendly Roots style!

Our organic garlic is a medicine cabinet disguised as a vegetable! πŸ§„

Garlic is antiviral, anti-fungal, and antibiotic all in one. It lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, thins the blood, and gives your endocrine system a boost. It's the only medicine cabinet we know of that can add flavor to your dinner!!

Next time you're at the stand, grab a few heads of garlic. Your immune system will notice!

Nothing says 'I love you' (or 'sorry about last week') like a bunch of farm-grown flowers!

Stop by and grab some. πŸ’

With all my love,
Farmer Sam
