What does it really mean to be a mentor?
You don’t have to be a counselor.
You don’t have to be a tutor.
You don’t need an extraordinary career or all the answers.
You just need to be willing to show up, listen, encourage, care and believe in a student.
Sometimes, the most meaningful thing you can give a young person is your time, attention, and a positive adult friendship.
You could be the mentor a student needs!

The words we speak to young people matter.
At TeamMates, we believe every student has unique strengths worth celebrating. While students don't take the CliftonStrengths assessment until high school, our mentors are encouraged to begin strengths-spotting long before then.
A simple observation like, "You're a great listener," or "I love how determined you are," can help a student see qualities they may have never recognized in themselves.
When mentors intentionally point out the good they see, they're doing more than giving a compliment. They're helping build confidence, belief, and hope for the future.
That's the power of a strengths-based approach!
