The North Platte Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and Gothenburg Police Department have taken an extraordinary leap forward in safeguarding its most vulnerable residents in North Platte and the surrounding area. We are proud to announce the implementation of Project Lifesaver, a public initiative to protect and locate individuals with cognitive disorders who may wander from home.

Project Lifesaver is a community-based, public safety, non-profit organization that provides law enforcement and caregivers with a program designed to protect and locate at-risk members of the community such as those with Autism, Down syndrome, or Alzheimer’s. Project Lifesaver is inexpensive and gives peace of mind to families of those identified with a cognitive condition where no other steps can be taken to prevent wandering.

Project Lifesaver works through proven technology and specially trained law enforcement officers. Citizens enrolled in the program are outfitted with a radio frequency transmitter to be worn on the wrist or ankle. If an enrolled client goes missing, the caregiver will notify the North Platte Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, or Gothenburg Police Department and a Project Lifesaver team will deploy with a specialized receiver to help locate the person greatly reducing search time, manpower, and cost.

Community members in North Platte, Lincoln County, and Gothenburg can contact their local law enforcement agency for additional information on qualification and potential enrollment into the Project Lifesaver program.
