Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day news of freedom finally reached enslaved people in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

At Linked2Literacy, we believe books can help us better understand history, one another, and the stories that shape our communities. This Juneteenth, we encourage families to read, learn, ask questions, and engage with stories that help bring history to life.

What book has helped you learn something new about the world?

We’re excited to celebrate the winners of our bookmark contest, where participants answered the powerful question: “What does being American mean to YOU?”

Across hundreds of submissions from throughout the city, we received an incredible collection of stories, perspectives, and lived experiences, each expressed through vibrant, thoughtful artwork. The creativity and honesty shared truly reflect the richness of our community!

A heartfelt congratulations to our winners:
Ages 0–12: Nova Brunnert
Ages 13–19: Adalyn Hershey
Ages 20+: Nancy (Shuoya) Liu

Each design stood out for its originality and meaningful expression, capturing what this question means in deeply personal ways.

We’re also excited to share that the winning bookmarks will be distributed across the city at Lincoln City Libraries locations as part of a special America250 celebration!

Thank you to everyone who participated. You made this project a powerful celebration of identity, voice, and belonging!!

Meet the Board!

We’re excited to reintroduce Doug Ganz, Treasurer of Linked2Literacy.

Doug’s leadership, generosity, and commitment to our mission help ensure that more children and families have access to the books and resources they need to thrive. Behind every successful nonprofit is a strong foundation, and we’re grateful for Doug’s stewardship and dedication to this work.

Thank you, Doug, for helping write the next chapter of literacy in our community.

Books, ice cream, and community... what could be sweeter?

In celebration of Elleinad’s Book-Inspired Ice Cream Passport and Give to Lincoln Day, we teamed up with Elleinad Books and Ivanna Cone for a special fundraising night featuring a House on Mango Street-inspired flavor.

We’re grateful to Elleinad Books for including Linked2Literacy in this creative initiative and to Ivanna Cone for donating a portion of the evening’s proceeds to support literacy in our community.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, enjoyed a scoop, and helped support the power of reading!

We’re excited to partner with the Lincoln Children's Museum this summer!

Stop by LNKLab and help us spread a little reading joy by creating a bookmark for fellow readers in our community. Our goal is to collect 100 bookmarks filled with creativity, encouragement, and a love of books.

It’s a simple way for children and families to share kindness, celebrate reading, and help make someone’s next book even more special.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Did you guess it correctly?

If you’re building a summer read-together list, this classic is worth adding. It’s a beautiful reminder that the things we share with others often become the things that matter most.

Lat semester, we had the privilege of working alongside Emily Nieman through the Intern Foundry program!

Emily played a key role in our Rooted in Reading fundraiser, supporting everything from event planning and outreach to speaking during the program itself. She approached every opportunity with professionalism, curiosity, and a willingness to step outside her comfort zone.

We’re grateful for the impact she made during her time with Linked2Literacy and loved celebrating her accomplishments at the end-of-term showcase!

Thank you, Emily, and best wishes on all that’s ahead!

A big thank you to Schoettger Orthodontics and Umbrella Photo Booth for helping make Rooted in Reading even more memorable!!

The photo booth was a favorite part of the evening, giving guests a fun way to capture moments with friends, family, and fellow literacy supporters.

We’re grateful for community partners who help create experiences that bring people together around a shared mission. Thank you for being part of this special night and for supporting literacy in Lincoln!

What began as a local effort in one Tennessee county has grown into one of the world’s largest book-gifting programs.

Today, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library mails books to children across multiple countries, helping families build a love of reading from the very beginning. Since becoming the local affiliate in 2023, Linked2Literacy has been proud to bring that impact closer to home, helping more children across Nebraska start their own reading journeys.

Every book mailed is more than a book, it’s a chance to build language, spark imagination, and create a lifelong reader!

125 donors.
$29,600 raised.
Countless stories still to be written.

Thank you.

Because of your generosity on Give to Lincoln Day, more children will receive books, more families will build reading routines together, and more young readers will have the opportunity to discover the joy and possibility found in stories.

We are incredibly grateful for this community and the belief you continue to place in our mission. The impact of your support will be felt one book, one child, and one story at a time.
