To welcome our 2026 Tax Interns, we put their investigative skills to the test with a high-stakes game of "Who Drank Kris’s Diet Coke?" (Because nothing says 'Welcome to Tax' like a corporate murder mystery). Through a series of games and clue-gathering, and the blatant Partner finger-pointing, we realized one thing: this group of interns know exactly how to handle a "cold" case. 🔎🥤

We had a blast getting to know the team and can’t wait for the start of tax season!

Our team celebrated the best and brightest at the UNL College of Business School of Accountancy Celebration of Excellence dinner! We were especially proud to see our own Elijah Watt Sells award winner Lane Knott take the stage to introduce the newest recipient of the award. A fantastic night recognizing the dedication and talent across our field!

Serving at the was an incredible experience! Our team, Labenz and Associates, packed 620 bags of jalapeños to help feed our community and surrounding neighbors. Giving back to the community isn't just something we do; it's one of our core values. We're proud to support the amazing work the Food Bank of Lincoln does every day.

Labenz & Associates LLC, Certified Public Accountants, is pleased to announce the promotions of Jeffrey Sheets, Michael Abramson and Lane Knott.

Jeffrey Sheets was promoted to Partner at Labenz & Associates. He graduated from UNL with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and holds a Master of Professional Accountancy degree from UNL. He serves as the treasurer of the Friends of Nebraska Dyslexia Association, as a board member of the Lincoln Children’s Museum and as a member of the UNL School of Accountancy Junior Advisory Board.

Mike, was promoted to Director with the Firm. He joined Labenz & Associates in 2013 following graduation from Hastings College. Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting, with a minor in mathematics. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Nebraska Society of Certified Public Accountants. Mike serves as a board member for the Lincoln Parks Foundation.

Lane Knott was promoted to Senior Associate. He interned at Labenz & Associates in the spring of 2020 and 2021. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in May 2021, and he completed his Master of Professional Accountancy in May 2022. Lane is a recipient of the Elijah Watt Sells Award in 2023 a prestigious honor that recognizes exceptional performance on the Uniform CPA Exam.
