Today, I want to take a moment to honor a remarkable man who changed my life forever—my track coach. Your unwavering belief in me and relentless support pushed me to reach heights I never thought possible. When no other school saw potential in me, you did. You believed in my dreams and opened the door to opportunities I could only imagine.

Thanks to you, I proudly became EWU’s first All-American in track and field and the first All-American in school history across any sport. Six times I stood on that podium, and each moment was a testament to your guidance and dedication.

Life would have been so different without you. Your passion, encouragement, and commitment to excellence inspired me not just as an athlete, but as a person. I will forever be grateful for the lessons you taught me and the belief you instilled in me.

It’s truly remarkable to reflect on the 21 years that have passed since I competed for Florida State University. I owe a debt of gratitude to Coach Long for the opportunity to proudly wear the garnet and gold. His emphasis on academics over athletics, even when it meant being removed from the track team due to my grades, taught me invaluable lessons about the true essence of being a student-athlete. These experiences instilled in me the importance of perseverance, hard work, and discipline, which ultimately paved the way for success in all aspects of my life. I will forever be thankful to Coach Long and FSU for shaping me into the person I am today.
