For this month’s global theme of we’ll be getting together at West Sixth Brewing to hear from none other than Toa Green, owner & operator of Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream 🍨

What started as a simple dessert option in the back of Toa’s family restaurant, Thai Orchid Café, has since grown to a business with two scoop shops, 40+ employees, nationwide shipping through Goldbelly, and recognition through national press including PEOPLE Magazine, the New York Times, and Cooking Channel. Crank & Boom’s mission is to Create Joy, Ignite Laughter, and Inspire Compassion.

✨ What's to Come + Summer Break ✨

As we're just over halfway through our fifth year as a CreativeMornings chapter (crazy, right?), we're taking some time to pause, refresh and look forward. We have big plans in the works, and we're taking the next month to bring new partners aboard, engage a lineup of amazing speakers and coordinate with the incredible spaces Lexington has to offer.

We'll plan to come back together in ✨September✨ with new energy and some fun surprises. So stay tuned!

We’re so excited for our friends at as they open a second location! We first met the Kopets when they reached out; They were new to town and had a coffee cart. We had a beautiful event at with , and their story and commitment to our community continued to flourish from there. Meet owners and creative masterminds, Viorika and Nik. 👇

“We're the Kopets family. Nik was born in Belarus, and Viorika was born in Ukraine and we both moved to America when we were young and grew up in Washington state. That's where we met, started our family, and then eventually (finally) moved to Kentucky in 2017!

We've had a passion for coffee for a long time now and daydreamed for years about opening up our own place. After moving to Lexington and experiencing the bursting coffee culture, we knew we were in the right place at the right time.

As with anything worthwhile, we had to overcome a few bumps along the road but finally came upon our current location at the Pepper Distillery District. In December 2019 we set to work getting things prepped – pressure washing, mopping, scraping, painting, drilling, hammering, plumbing, electrical, furniture, equipment, and so on. Then, as we're all aware, covid-19 hit in March 2020, and our construction progress and opening date had to be delayed.

Thankfully, in September 2020 we were able to open our doors! “

Jennifer serves Lexington, KY Parks & Recreation Superintendent of Natural Areas. Her passion is working with creative people to engage the public in interactive, minds-on experiences with the natural world, be it hiking, learning about bugs, trees, or water, or through volunteerism. Her goal is for all participants to understand more about the impacts of our actions and our built environment, and how we can each make a difference in keeping our surroundings healthy and productive for all life.

This is going to be a ✨one-of-a-kind ✨outdoor event. Beyond our typical talk and gathering, you’ll have photo ops with owls, wilderness printmaking, opportunities to hike in the park and more....you’re not going to want to miss this one! 🌲🐞🐿

“I’m Hollie Chastain, a paperphile artist and illustrator working in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Coming from both a graphic design and studio art background, my work has a story-telling quality, mixing found material, strong graphic elements, and modern palettes. Texture plays an important role to me so my illustration process, like my studio work, starts with an analogue foundation. I’m deeply inspired by folklore, music, and the unknown and have a passion for folk art and self-taught artists.”

We love that we are part of this global creative community, sharing Lexington’s talent worldwide.
