Woodford County Leaders Applaud $1.4M in Federal Funds to Improve Connection to Highbramble Park
VERSAILLES, KY — Today, U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) announced a major $1.4 million federal grant to support critical infrastructure improvements to connect Highbramble Park. This funding was secured through the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Bill.
The funding will be directed to the Versailles Road and Utility Infrastructure Project, a key initiative aimed at unlocking economic development and strengthening local transportation and utility systems. It will create road access as well as essential water and wastewater infrastructure to connect to Highbramble Park, Woodford County's new Standardbred Training Facility. This investment is expected to bring jobs, tourism, and long-term economic growth to the region.
“This project is about making smart, forward-looking investments in Versailles’ future,” said Congressman Barr. “I fought to secure this funding and ensured it was included in the latest America First funding bill. This investment will strengthen economic growth, attract new opportunities, and enhance the quality of life for the families who call Versailles home.”
The Versailles Road and Utility Infrastructure Project will enhance public safety, improve transportation efficiency, and create the foundation necessary for private investment. Local leaders have identified the project as a top priority due to its direct impact on economic development and community vitality.
“This funding is a significant win for the City of Versailles and Woodford County as it extends Paddock Drive across US 60 by creating turn lanes and road infrastructure at the former Edgewood Farm property,” said Versailles Mayor Laura Dake. “I want to thank Congressman Barr for his tireless advocacy in securing this $1.4 million through the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations bill. These improvements to our roads and utility infrastructure will remove barriers to economic development that will benefit our residents and community.”
“For years, this site’s lack of basic infrastructure has held back what could be a real economic engine for Woodford County,” said State Senator Amanda Mays Bledsoe (R-KY-12). “This funding clears a major hurdle. Congressman Barr pushed this project through the THUD process and delivered resources that will finally allow Versailles to move forward with development that brings jobs, visitors, and lasting returns to the community.”
Woodford County Judge/Executive James Kay emphasized the critical nature of these improvements for the county's signature industry.
“The road and utility infrastructure going to Highbramble Park is the key to unlocking the full potential of our new training track and securing the future of our equine industry,” said Judge/Executive Kay. “I am grateful to Congressman Barr for delivering these federal funds, which allow us to build the necessary foundation for a world-class facility that will serve our community and drive our local economy."
