Trinity Hill Methodist
Scope of Work: Redesign of Existing Stage Area, Fabrication
When Trinity Hill Methodist church contacted NOMI to assist in the renovation of their sanctuary, we were thrilled to discover the natural beauty and architectural significance that the existing space contained. Built in 1966, the churchβs sanctuary has a magnificent octagonal form, that is spaciously lifted by a clerestory row of beautiful stained-glass windows. The windows allow light to flood into space while highlighting the expansive wood ceiling.
Behind the pulpit, and across the back wall is the newly designed focus of the sanctuary, the Cross Wall. When the congregation at Trinity Hill asked for a new Cross to be constructed, we thought the wall behind the cross needed to engage both the cross and the congregation with an installation of light and mystique. We felt the wall could activate the cross itself, by creating a void in which the cross would float in front of and be bathed in light.
The wall itself created itβs own narrative by incorporating a series of biblical phrases and clauses from the bible to script a meaningful set of reminders of alongside the cross. The wall is set of walnut planks of differing depths that creates a texture of light and shadows across the back wall that echoes the warmth and tones of the original wood ceiling.

How many architects still work with their hands like we do?
π¨ Not all of our projects are fabrication based. Actually, most of the larger projects we design, we don't physically fabricate.
BUT how does the fabrication aspect of our business give us a leg up on those projects? We intimately understand how buildings are constructed because, well, we have done it.
How can you tell? Just take a look at our drawing sets.

π That one time we designed, fabricated, assembled an entire work-live unit in our shop to ensure the designs perfection prior to mobilizing on it's final site. π
The York Street Makerspaces was completed using Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) fabrication methods. The wood structure for the structure is an assembly of pieces milled entirely on our CNC machine that fit together like a puzzle.
The pre-cut parts were delivered on pallets and assembled on site using only rubber mallets, screw guns and a little elbow grease.

ππ½ We are architects.
ππ½ We are fabricators.
ππ½ We are problem solvers.
Here's just one example:
π« Providence Montessori Elementary needed to create more classroom space without building an addition onto their existing building.
π As a solution, we turned their existing library into a classroom and transformed a nearby room into a flexible space that is part library, recourse storage and multi-purpose.
π³ In order to maximize space we designed and fabricated mobile library storage. This inventive furniture design now allows the library to transform into a play area for an after-school program. Containers for books fold away to reveal containers for play. As a nod to Providence Montessoriβs logo, a custom tree chandelier defines the libraries central reading area. Carved into the tree are fifty rings to commemorate this schools 50th anniversary.
