A Lexington County man has been sentenced to more than nine years in federal prison after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing the firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime. This afternoon, FBI Columbia partnered with the FBI Columbia Citizens Academy Alumni Association for a presentation on Elder Fraud in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Education is one of the strongest tools we have to fight fraud.

This week FBI Columbia field office case work led to the following judicial actions:

▪️A Nigerian legal permanent resident was indicted for allegedly fraudulently voting in the 2024 election.

▪️A former ambulance transport employee was indicted for allegedly making false statements relating to health care matters and aiding/abetting. The alleged scheme led to Medicare being billed $1.8 Million.

▪️A federal jury convicted two people in a $25 million wire fraud and money laundering case worked by multiple federal agencies.
