Sometimes when working on a vehicle you need a specialty tool...

Sometimes the specialty tool no longer exists and you have to figure it out.

Here at Wilson Auto Tech and Wilson Motor Works we try to have every tool imaginable to assist in getting your vehicle running just as you want it. When the tools do not work, we break into our stash of bolts and bits to make our own tools. As pictured is a bushing puller that was used to help with a suspension overhaul on an older 4x4 this week.

For any issue you have with any vehicle or engine, we are happy to help.

Something interesting we have found here in the LC Valley...

Our friends and neighbors do not like to give up there older trucks and get newer vehicles. From time to time we end up with vehicles that are very research intensive to get parts for. Within reason we are willing to work with any and all vehicles to solve any problem.

Recently we had a Nissan truck in that had numerous components that were single model year only. With careful research and patience, we were able to find the specific throttle body and get the truck moving again.

For all your vehicular needs send us a message or reach out however you would like, we are always here to help.

In our machine shop this is one of our favorite parts of the job...

Here at Wilson Motor Works when working on restorations and cast iron components. The paint is one of the most important and satisfying parts of the process. When done correctly, it adds a protective layer to the metals so that the engine can last as long as possible. Also it looks nice.

Here is something interesting seen at the machine shop this week...

A Volkswagen VR6 block. These have the perks of being a V6, without needing to have multiple heads. The interesting thing is that the cylinders are at a 15 degree angle towards each other.

The team is excited to get this one back to full performance and then some more.

We are willing and able to work on all kinds of European blocks, heads, flywheels etc.

If there is any way we can be of service on your project let us know we are happy to help.

We would like to share a recent interesting change to engine oil

There is no such thing as a perfect engine oil that lasts forever. Throughout the last fifty years companies have claimed they have invented it, much to the chagrin of car owners.

This last year the new specification set called GF-7A was released into the world. The big change was that the oil is expected to perform well fresh but still after a few thousand miles.

Here is what this means for you, when your oil is changed, by using the more modern quality oils that are compatible with your vehicle you can expect better fuel economy, less wear to the timing system, and reduced internal deposits and sludge.

This does not mean that oil changes are needed less often, but it does mean that when using GF-7A oils that we can expect to see less problems caused by bad oils.

Here at Wilson Auto Tech, we keep a full selection of many premium and standard oil qualities and brands. Our flavor of choice is Schaeffer's to keep our engines running.

If you would like an oil change or any other service performed. Send us a message or give us a call.

(Pictured is the old Schaeffer's 0w-20 beside the newer formulation of Schaeffer's 0w-20)

Howdy friends, here is something that brightens our days for you,

Flywheels.

The difference between poor engagement with the flywheel and one that is in spec is massive. There is no joy to a clutch that has a bad relationship to the pedal.

Getting flywheels that are beat up and grody and having them leave all shiny and smooth brings joy. Not only to us but in the end drivers experience. We really like when you can see how much better it is, then feel the difference every day for years to come.

Whether it be flywheels, rotors, drums, manifolds, or anything else. We are thrilled to help get anything you need surfaced so that the project outcome is as nice as it can be.

All makes all models all purposes, big or small.
Happy to help, get any and all problems solved.

Hey LC Valley friends, we thought this might interest you to know

There are no cars and trucks in the world designed for this valley. With the hills, the bumps, the heat and the cold. It can be unkind to your health let alone your car's.

As vehicles get driven, the plastics of headlight housings get scratched, and dirty. When that dirtiness gets cooked, the housings become exceedingly foggy.

To combat this, here is what we do, we wet sand the assembly down. Then fully reseal and clearcoat the lens with a more resistant UV protecting clear coat. This restores clarity and is like sunscreen against future damage. It will not make the headlights immune to future scratches, but a whole lot better than how it left the factory.

As pictured below is a before and after of a Suburban that was recently in the shop.

Here at Wilson Auto Tech our machine shop is willing to work with any and all blocks, heads and other parts that need machining to assist you in getting your projects moving again. From electrolysis rust removal to valve guides, to full engine assemblies.

We love it when a plan comes together, and when your vehicle gets to roar in anger again across all of life's adventures.
