Last week was a music-filled week. Unfortunately, we were not able to get pictures of the Jazz Concert, but here are a few photos from the choir and rock concerts! Great job to all of our students, members of public, and staff/faculty for their hard work!

On Wednesday, Apil 29th, Professor Mike Owen gave his final lecture at LC. He has spent the last 35 years as an instructor in the CTE program, and the last two years in the Humanities Division. During the lecture, the room was filled with faculty, sharing many memories of their time with Owen, and students (both past and present). Owen gave a wonderful lecture on the future of education and technology. At the end, he received a standing ovation from everyone in the room!
Thank you, Mike Owen, for your dedication to student learning. You have truly made an impact on everyone.

Graduate Highlight! 🎓
Communications major and Nonprofit Management minor, Nancy Jones is graduating! She hopes to use her degrees to support her current position and help serve her community.
✨Were there any trips/class activities that she participated in that she really enjoyed?
“The three core classes for the Nonprofit Management minor were AMAZING. Each required partnering with a local nonprofit agency for completion of a hands-on project. It's a chance to meet local people doing incredible work and to create something real to support them. It wasn't easy but it was so rewarding!”
✨How would she describe her time as an LC Humanities student?
“Returning to college was hard but my advisor and professors made me feel supported and encouraged. I learned so much that is truly applicable in the real world. LC was wonderful.”
✨Is there anyone she would like to thank?
“My advisor, Ben Morton, is THE reason I now have my degree, and I can't thank him enough. His knowledge of the Communications program is deep and he's passionate about the work. He's also real about the challenges students face. When I faced a personal situation that impacted everything in my life, he helped me navigate how to keep my classes on track. His support was critical. I also want to thank my family and my best friend. They absolutely walked every minute of this long journey with me.”
Her daughter will receive her associate's degree the same day that Nancy would receive her Bachelor’s. “That’s huge when my dad didn’t even graduate high school. I am thankful to LCSC for the support that made it happen.”
Congratulations, Nancy! We cannot wait to see where you will go.

Graduate Highlight! 🎓
Communication Arts major Vanessa Mathews is graduating this spring! She plans to use her degree to do brand consulting for nonprofits and small businesses, along with writing.
✨“I had the opportunity to serve as President of a student club at LC Coeur d'Alene Campus, where I saw firsthand the support students need to start and successfully complete their academics. I’m grateful to the students and staff of the Smarty Party club.”
✨“Some may think a Communications degree is ‘easy,’ but I would disagree. In an increasingly global world, LC’s communication and humanities courses helped me become a more well-rounded communicator able to connect with diverse communities.”
✨"I would first like to thank Dr. Ben Morton, my advisor at LC CDA. As a non-traditional student who faced many personal challenges, Ben supported me every step of the way. He is truly a 'teacher of teachers,' and his optimism for my success never wavered -- even when mine did.
I would also like to thank my employer, Mountain West Bank, and my coworkers at the Ironwood Branch for giving me the opportunity to complete my education. Banking was not a path I expected, but it has been a true blessing.
Thank you to Cynthia Newkirk at the Music Conservatory of Coeur d'Alene for her investment in me and for the opportunity to work with an organization that promotes music literacy for youth.
I am grateful to 1st Pres Downtown in Coeur d'Alene for allowing me to research local history and contribute to grant writing for Sacred Places. This experience taught me so much about community presence and building a lasting legacy.
I would also like to thank my family, my siblings, and my wonderful friends. Especially my mother, Christina, who passed away in 2019. Though she did not graduate high school, she never gave up on her dreams and taught me to do the same. I know she would be proud.
Lastly, and most importantly, I thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, for the strength and resilience to persevere through my academic journey."
Congratulations, Vanessa! We can’t wait to see what’s next!
