Today would have been my mom’s 88th birthday.
She’s been gone for 20 years now, which seems impossible when there are still days I can hear her voice, remember her laugh, and picture her standing in the kitchen.
If you’ve ever sat at my table, taken one of my classes, ordered a meal, attended a Soulful Supper, or watched me fuss over whether there was enough food for everyone, you’ve experienced a little piece of her.
I learned how to cook from my mom long before I ever called myself a chef.
She taught me that food wasn’t just food. It was comfort after a hard day. It was celebration on the good days. It was how we welcomed people in, showed love, solved problems, and connected with one another.
Growing up on the farm, meals weren’t fancy. They were practical, generous, and made to feed whoever happened to be at the table that day. Looking back, so much of what My Chef Steph has become started right there in her kitchen.
Today I’m celebrating her the best way I know how—with gratitude, good food, and a table that’s always got room for one more.
Happy 88th Birthday, Mom. ❤️
I miss you every day, and I’m thankful every day that I was lucky enough to be your daughter.
The cooking came from her.
The wicked sense of humor came from her too.
Turns out she was teaching me a lot more than recipes. ❤️

📍 Lili G Fight Night – Grain Bowl Formula Night!
Tonight we talked about one of my favorite dinner-saving frameworks: the humble grain bowl.
I made mine with a Mexican burrito bowl twist—cauliflower rice, seasoned ground turkey, black beans, corn, salsa, cilantro, and plenty of cheese—but the real lesson wasn’t the recipe. It was the formula.
Because once you know the formula, dinner gets a whole lot easier.
✨ Build your bowl:
🥣 Start with a base
• Rice
• Cauliflower rice
• Quinoa
• Couscous
• Greens
🍗 Add a protein
• Chicken
• Turkey
• Beef
• Shrimp
• Beans
• Tofu
🌽 Pile on the veggies
• Fresh
• Roasted
• Sautéed
• Whatever needs used up in your fridge
🧀 Add flavor and texture
• Cheese
• Nuts
• Seeds
• Avocado
• Crispy onions
🥄 Finish with a sauce
• Salsa
• Chimichurri
• Tzatziki
• Peanut sauce
• Ranch
• Vinaigrette
💡 That’s the magic of a grain bowl. There is no “right” recipe. It’s simply a delicious way to turn what you already have into dinner.
Tonight’s group proved once again that simple food doesn’t have to be boring. We laughed, learned, shared a meal together, and hopefully everyone left with one more tool to make feeding themselves and their families just a little easier.
Because sometimes the best recipe isn’t a recipe at all—it’s a framework that gives you confidence in the kitchen.

Last night I was standing on a hillside watching the sunset with a wonderful group of women at cooking class.
Today???
I’m up to my elbows in slider buns, ham, cheese, watermelon, strawberries, pineapple, grapes, and enough fruit to make me question my life choices. 😂
And honestly? I love both.
Because this is what feeding a community looks like.
Some days it’s sunsets, Mediterranean flavors, homemade tzatziki, and lemon ricotta cake around the table.
Some days it’s sheet pans of sliders, giant fruit trays, and prepping for 200 guests gathering to celebrate a life well lived.
Both matter.
Both are about bringing people together.
Both are reminders that food is never really just about the food.
Now if you’ll excuse me, these sliders aren’t going to build themselves. ❤️

Another Mediterranean cooking class is in the books, and what a fun group this was.
While I chopped, stirred, and tasted, we also laughed, and spent a couple of hours slowing down long enough to enjoy good food and even better company.
The menu was packed with some of my favorite Mediterranean flavors:
✨ Chickpea & Kalamata Olive Chop Salad
✨ Classic Mediterranean Chicken with tomatoes, olives, spinach, and artichoke hearts
✨ My famous 2-Ingredient Naan
✨ Chicken Gyros with homemade Tzatziki
✨ Garlic Roasted Tomato Spinach Shrimp
✨ Lemon Ricotta Cake with Lemon Glaze
As always, the food was delicious—but my favorite part is hearing the words guests use to describe the evening.
Tonight’s words were:
Peaceful. Fun. Educational. Delicious. Magical. Amazing. Joyful.
And honestly? That’s exactly what I hope people take home from these nights.
