In Classical-era Eurasia, the Scythian Empire sprang up from the 7th to 3rd century BCE. Within Scythian culture, there was a sect of priestesses known as the Enarees. They are recorded as โeunuchs among the Scythians who perform female work and speak like womenโ.
Like many other groups of trans and nonbinary people in the ancient world, they were considered to be mystically gifted. Their role in society was to serve as soothsayers. Since ideas on gender have changed drastically since then into a strict binary, as opposed to a spectrum as it was viewed in the ancient world, the language used to describe them doesnโt translate well into English. However, the evidence from records and physical evidence indicates that in modern language, we would call these priestesses trans women. They were assigned male at birth and transitioned to become Enarees.

It's Trans History Tuesday! We're highlighting trans history-makers to honor their memory and remind everyone: We've always been here, and we always will be.
Dr. Alan Hart was a pioneer of the use of X-ray technology, particularly in the diagnosis of tuberculosis. His methods are still used today, meaning that he has saved countless lives. During his active time as a physician, he was even hired by the Idaho Tuberculosis Association and became the Tuberculosis Control Officer. He created the first of both fixed-location and mobile tuberculosis screening clinics and is credited for leading the stateโs fight against TB. Early in his medical career, he had interned in Lewiston itself, already in boy mode. He had decided that masculine attire would make it easier to make his mark on medical history.
Dr. Hart was also the first documented trans man in the United States. For the most part, he had avoided attention for it until a former classmate recognized him while he was interning at San Francisco Hospital and subsequently outed him via the Spokesman-Review on February 6, 1918. This forced him and his wife to move frequently due to people harassing him about it.

The fundraiser for GSA Prom is live, and we need YOUR help!
The Lewiston High School Gay-Straight Alliance has been actively raising funds for this event but need just a little more help to come up with the final costs. Our hope is to raise enough funds to pay off the room, pay for a DJ and a photographer.
Please consider helping this wonderful group of kids have their inclusive prom celebration!
Please note that there will be chaperones in place for this event.
