Something Different

This is the project that started it all for me. In 2010 I was in my second (and final) year of art school and wanted to do a project that meant something to me.

This was my great grandmother Treva. She was living with frontal lobe dementia; for which she battled for about thirteen years. My family would visit her for special occasions which mostly ended in her hitting on my brother (hilarious). I decided to visit her on my own to really experience what her life was like. I brought my medium format film camera and spent hours photographing and witnessing her beautiful, yet haunting experience of waiting to die.

This started a whole journey for me traveling around the world sharing the story of dementia care. This journey has been on my mind a lot lately and I think it’s time to bring these and stories back to life!

I’m working on creating a shop for my canvases plus chatting with some local businesses to start carrying my animals as well! Super excited to give these paintings some more attention.

Throw back to Spring 2019 when I did this beauty on the ! I still get the chills from being on top of that 16ft ladder for so long. When I took on this project I never had done a mural this size plus I freehanded the whole thing. I drive by this mural everyday and it always motivates me when I need a little push.

I love how this mural came out! I have to say that I prefer working with home owners, especially friends like 😘. It’s so wonderful to bring a clients ideas to life. If you’re looking for something to spice up your home, reach out to me!

First mural of 2023 and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I typically don’t take on smaller projects but I loved working and was happy to make her dreams come true. Can’t wait to see what’s up next!!

Feeling super inspired for the week ahead.

I’ve been creating some pretty awesome letter graphics to accompany some really cool greeting card concepts for my animals! This is actually two sayings but hey it’s some good Monday motivation. Since all of my animals were scanned at 640 DPI I can really blow up areas of color and texture to make some really solid lettering. I’m really excited to share the graphics I came up with and I’ve sent out my concepts to a bunch of licensing companies. Rejection is pretty common but I’m feelin’ pretty good!

I’ve been taking a lot of time to think about how I could keep the momentum going to get my Artwork into more hospitals. I want to create more bodies of work to partner with more Children’s units in Military Hospitals. Why Military Hospitals? So these hospitals are mostly Adult hospitals so we’re talking specialized wings for children which means lots of beige walls that need color and hospital beds that deserve paintings above them. So, how can I make this sustainable? It’s time to venture into the world of licensing! My goal is to license my work and get my animals into as many big chains as I can so I can make money off of these animals to invest in myself to create more work and fill the walls of more hospitals. The best part is, the more decal options I have the cheaper it is for Hospitals to invest in this concept. Cross your fingers for me!! I’ve got a lot to learn. Huge shoutout to my incredible step mom for helping me through this process!! My whole life I’ve watched her create and license her work and she’s honestly the master!
