I’ve had the pleasure of performing with some true badasses in the music business, and David Carrero was one of them.
David had his own struggles, but when he played the blues, he was simply the best. I’ll never forget spending an entire night with him while he taught me “Yellow Moon” — how to play it, sing it, and most importantly, how to feel the timing just right. When it came to blues, David had something unique that can’t really be taught.
Everyone knew David. A lot of famous touring musicians would hang out with him and wanted to help him, but David always wanted to do it his own way.
Over the years I’d run into him at my shows, always eager to jump up and sit in.
What many people may not know is that David and I actually started my band together. He was there at the very beginning — at The Cat’s Eye, The Horse, The Bayou Blues, and so many other places.
This pictures are from one of our early performance at The Emerald Tavern and others from other shows.
It was never easy getting him into the studio… but I finally did. The intro to one of my songs was written and performed by David. the melody is all David.
David passed away today around noon.
Until we meet again… rest in peace, David. Thank you for the music, the lessons, and the memories. 🎶💔

I've had the pleasure, throughout my career, of performing in many, many places—from big stages in front of thousands of people to small venues, local bars, festivals, and more. No matter the size of the crowd, each performance brings its own memories and special moments. I’m thankful for every opportunity to share music and connect with people along the way. 🎶✨
But every once in a while, you get to perform in a very special place that instantly feels like home.
Paul Kares’ The Room at Cedar Grove in Lewes, DE is one of those places.
It’s not a huge venue—but it is the perfect place to perform. The people there appreciate music to the core. You could feel it from the very first song to the very last, and even after the encore… they wanted more! I can’t thank everyone enough because this turned out to be one of those truly unforgettable shows.
From the moment you walk in, everyone makes you feel right at home. Such a cool atmosphere. I had the chance to meet Paul, and right away you could feel the vision behind the venue—it’s all about bringing people together and making everyone part of the fun.
And Bill, the sound engineer that night—wow. I hope he’s there every night because he did a fantastic job. The sound was absolutely perfect in every way. Thank you!
One thing Paul said to me really stayed with me:�“When I opened this place, I wanted musicians to be treated the way they deserve to be treated.”
Mission accomplished. You and your crew did exactly that.
It was also wonderful seeing a couple of friends from years past who now live nearby—always special moments.
And finally, thank you to Sydney, Mayor of the Eastern Shore, for bringing us there. I absolutely loved it.
The show SOLD OUT 🎉 and we are already booked to return on August 13! We’ll be coming back to share more music and bring a few new surprises and songs for everyone.
I’ll admit—I had some concerns about how some of the Latin music would be received, but I was so happy to see everyone embrace it. Nothing but good vibes all night long ❤️
We are truly looking forward to seeing everyone again because I was right—there is not a bad seat in The Room!
