Eunice Meyer Reed
Eunice Meyer Reed, 93, died peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2015 in her residence.
Born November 1, 1921, Eunice was the daughter of Louis and Ida Meyer and a native of south Louisiana. As the firstborn of farming parents living in hard times, she learned the value of hard work from a young age. In February of 1949, she was married to Adam Theophile Reed, with whom she gave birth to three daughters: Erlene, Renee, and Lynne. They remained married for 29 years until Adam's death in December of 1978. Eunice was a Christian and, for many years, part of the South College Road church of Christ in her home of Lafayette, Louisiana. In 2006, a weakening heart and body ultimately led her to leave Louisiana to be cared for by her eldest daughter in Overland Park, Kansas, where she spent the remaining years of her life. Just as many in Louisiana know and love her dearly, she came to be known and loved by many in Kansas as well, including Christians at the Southside church of Christ in Blue Springs, Missouri, of which she was a member.
Though she encountered difficulty in her life, including her gradually failing health, Eunice remained consistently thankful to God for all His goodness.
She is preceded in death by her spouse Adam T. Reed; siblings Honora Meyer, Amy Savoie, Nelson Meyer, and Elroy Meyer; stepchildren Jimmie “Mamie” Neff, Lois Sudduth, Pat Reed, Murphy Reed, Marjorie Simon, Ruby Capps, and Floyd Reed.
She is survived by her three daughters Erlene Cooper, Renee Kessel, and Lynne Bisceglia; three stepchildren Berkman Reed, Jerry Reed, and JoAnn Aguillard; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; as well as her brother and sister, Dudley Meyer and Betty Miller.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 28 at 10:00 am at the Porter Funeral Home in Lenexa, Kansas.
