❤️ a few weeks ago we celebrated my son’s best friend’s birthday. 🧩 🐕🦺
When we add experiences cooking we are working on the following:
Understanding kitchen safety
Understanding cooking vocabulary
Identifying and using cooking tools
Reading and following a recipe
Preparing for and planning a cooking project
Let’s use the kitchen as a classroom too! 😃

The first five years are the MOST important to all children. IMO for kids with developmental delays can be a little bit longer than that, especially depending on the diagnosis and medical history.
Take multiple opportunities during the day to engage with your child, see the wonderful benefits that can give you in return. ❤️

Practical life activities are applicable for all ages, even infants, and change depending on what the child can do at each stage of development. The activities can start with something as simple as pulling pants up or washing hands and can get as complicated as baking a dessert, or even developing a business plan in the elementary or middle school years.
When taken seriously and presented as an approachable, impactful challenge, these activities hold inherent dignity. It’s not “just” getting dressed or "just" juicing an orange if one is doing it oneself. The child is learning to follow a complex motor sequence, independently, in order to fulfill his or her own desires and needs. These skills, when taught early in life, allow children to believe in themselves as well as develop the self-discipline needed for success throughout their lives.

Project based learning is a learning approach that can be beneficial for students with special needs.

We are currently learning all about 🐣
Science: we will study the life cycle
Social: observe how they can communicate
Math: calculate the food we need to buy and materials we need to build their chicken coop
Cooking: well, wait for the 🥚 🍳 😃 and explore different recipes

How to make STEM activities meaningful?
Here is an easy way.
With the help of Leah Brooks (distributor for Tower Garden) we were able to be successful.
I highly recommend Leah, she goes above and beyond solving any mysteries that may come up 🙃 this was our first trial and looks pretty cool!
Things we learned:

How are you going to celebrate earth day?
Here we are learning all about composting 😃
We worked on assembling a composting bin
As homeschoolers, we work everyday on making the learning process as authentic and realistic as much as possible. It is our philosophy, to raise an independent learner who is capable of finding solutions independently.
What did we worked on?
He was interested to know what those spots on the leaf were, we found out that it is a fungus 😢 now let’s try to find out if cinnamon is a true natural fungicide.

😃 cool experiment we are working on.
During this lesson, we incorporated our music therapist, to help us by making a song that can memorizing the scientific method. 😃
