Civil Science has been supporting Salt Lake City with railroad crossing upgrades at Orange Street, Navajo Street, and 1000 West as part of the effort to develop a new Quiet Zone, while maintaining compliance with an existing one.
This work has involved close coordination with Salt Lake City, Union Pacific Railroad, Patriot Rail, and the Federal Railroad Administration to evaluate improvements, support safety requirements, and help reduce train horn impacts for nearby neighborhoods.
The team also provided input related to the recommended closure of 200 South, which was recently approved by the Salt Lake City Council as a key step toward addressing the remaining train horn issue on the city’s west side.
A big shoutout to our Salt Lake City project team, UDOT Rail Division support, and our important rail company partners.
Salt Lake City passes road closure that could solve last remaining train horn issue A small, indefinite road closure in Salt Lake City could help fix a complaint that west side residents have had for years.

Loved participating in the 400 South bike ride this week and seeing firsthand the impact this project will have on the Salt Lake City community.
Civil Science provided design and construction support services for this impactful corridor project, which included protected multi-use paths, bridge preservation, transit upgrades, innovative bike facilities, and a unique public art installation integrated into the viaduct experience.
The completed corridor improves safety, accessibility, and community connectivity while strengthening partnerships with Utah DOT https://www.abc4.com/news/wasatch-front/400-south-viaduct-bridge/

Thunder Junction All-Abilities Park. St. George, UT. (Phase 1 complete; Phase 2 in progress.)
This award-winning, nationally recognized park spans seven acres, with two acres dedicated to a playground. The park’s theme, “Dinosaurs in a Desert Oasis,” includes a universally accessible playground with diverse play equipment. Highlights include a rumbling and erupting volcano with a Jurassic fort and slides, dinosaur sculptures, an interactive water feature, a sculpted cave, a climbing wall, and a sensory garden with musical instruments. Additionally, it features a wheelchair-accessible train on a looped rail line, a train depot, shade structures, restrooms, concessions, and beautifully landscaped surroundings.
Phase 2 will introduce an "Ice Age" theme to complement the existing dinosaur concept while also adding a new and exciting experience. Currently in progress (and totaling an estimated $8 Million), planned features include expanded play options for children of all abilities, an asteroid bouldering area, a giant wooly mammoth play structure, and a prehistoric cave-themed train stop with slides, climbing elements, and wheelchair-accessible bridges and viewing platforms. Civil Science is helping turn vision into long-term community value.
Snake Hollow Bike Park is a strong example.
Set across 80 acres, the park features four distinct riding zones, from dirt jumps to gravity flow trails, along with paved connections to the regional trail system, event spaces, and community-focused amenities.
Our team led planning, design, and construction for this project, incorporating over a mile of asphalt trails built to AASHTO standards, along with critical grading and drainage to ensure long-term performance and safety. City of St. George
