The actors behind the Emotet/Geodo botnet are so sweet – they’re inviting lots of people to their Halloween party tonight! Cofense researchers observed their Halloween-themed phishing emails going out today, asking recipients to open a malicious attachment to learn more about their spooky party. When macros are enabled, an Emotet/Geodo executable is downloaded, enslaving the machine as part of their ever-growing botnet. Sorry to disappoint “the Mike” who is bringing drinks tonight, but savvy folks will sit this one out. Have a safe and happy Halloween from all of us at Cofense!
