Dr. Aruna R. Kola, MDVIP
A true partner in health who you can reach 24/7 and see same- or next-day. She sees fewer patients, which means more time for each one.
Dr. Kola, Board Certified Internal Medicine physician, offers a different approach to primary care. Patients appreciate same/next-day appointments that start on time and aren't rushed; plus they can usually reach her 24/7. Her practice also offers other services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices

A recent study suggests that a certain nutrient may help slow down cognitive decline in older adults. 🧠
The nutrient in question is choline, which is found in foods like eggs, dairy, meat, and fish. The study found that older adults who consumed more choline had better cognitive function and a lower risk of cognitive decline over time.
Choline is known to be important for brain health, as it helps with the formation of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that is essential for memory and learning.
While more research is needed to fully understand the role of choline in cognitive health, this study adds to the growing body of evidence supporting the importance of a healthy, balanced diet for overall health and well-being.
Adding choline-rich foods to your diet, such as eggs or fish, can be a simple way to increase your intake of this important nutrient. As always, it's important to talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian to ensure that you're getting the right balance of nutrients for your individual needs.

Whether you're watching a hilarious movie, telling jokes with your friends, or simply laughing at your own silly mistakes, laughter has the power to boost your mood, reduce stress, and even improve your immune system. 💪
So go ahead, laugh it up! And when you do need some medicine, give us a call!

Did you know that March is National Nutrition Month®? 🥗
The campaign is designed to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. So today we are going to share a few tips with you! 🤩
1. Eat whole foods.
If you want to eat better, choose foods that are in their natural form and avoid processed foods.
2. A healthy gut is a happy gut.
Eat foods that contain probiotics, which can aid digestion and create and maintain a good balance of healthy bacteria in your gut.
3. Avoid sugary drinks.
Sodas, sports beverages, or even sweet tea can add too much sugar, calories or salt to your diet. Fruit juice doesn’t give you the fiber or nutrients you need.
4. Eat the rainbow.
Try a variety of fruits and vegetables, especially of those of different colors, to keep things fresh and interesting. If the thought of piling fruit on to your plate doesn’t seem appealing, add them to ice cream, yogurt or smoothies. And if you don’t like veggies, try roasting them or dipping them in a small amount of dressing for additional flavor.
5. Less is more.
Portion size is one of the biggest problems facing Americans who are trying to lose weight. When dining out, set aside half of your meal immediately. Not only does this give you lunch or dinner for tomorrow, but you won’t overeat today.
We'd love to hear from you! What's your favorite nutrition tip?!

How are your health goals going?
We know that it can be hard to stick to goals so we are sharing 3 simple steps to stick to your goals.
1. Keep Your Goals Within Reach
2. Practice a Positive Body Image
3. Small Swaps
👉 By keeping your goals within reach you can achieve 1 goal, use the momentum to achieve the next one, and so on.
👉 A negative body image adds pressure to goals that can already have some quite heavy pressure. So practicing a positive body image will help your mental health and keep you focused on achieving something with joy.
👉 Starting with small swaps helps you to maintain reachable achievements. In everything from time to start moving, to healthy foods to eat, when you do one good thing, it ads to your "win" stack internally and builds confidence to continue to do more good.
So let us help you to achieve your small wins! Call today and set up your first appointment!

Let's take a look at how costly it is to treat a chronic disease that 1 in 4 Americans face.

If you suffer a heart attack, Medicare estimates you will spend 60 percent more out of pocket annually versus someone who hasn’t. That works out to $12,000 a year, every year, for the rest of your life. 😬
👉 Even nonsurgical procedures have hefty price tags. Even with health insurance, you could end up paying thousands of dollars, depending on your out-of-pocket maximum.

The word solstice comes from the Latin words "sol" which means sun, and "sistere" which means to stand still. At the winter solstice, the sun seems to hover and stand still in the southern sky. After the winter solstice passes the earth slowly begins to reverse its tilt. The days get longer and longer, and sunrise and sunset start their slow journey to the northern horizon.
This time of year is often when we see an increase in SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder. So today we are going to think of some ways that you can combat SAD with gratitude and intentional feeling.
Intentionally celebrating this time of year is a simple, yet effective way to keep your hearts cheerful. This helps emotionally as well as physically.
🌅 Create a sunrise & sunset journal. These don't have to be exact times but begin to notice and track the times that the sun rises and set. While doing this make sure to position your thoughts and feelings in a place of positivity. You can also take note of how the time lengthens after the solstice.
❄️ Go outside and try to notice the ways that your surroundings are different during the winter.
🌈 Notice the colors of this season. Look closely around and find the beauty at this time of year.

‼️ MOST IMPORTANT POLL OF ALL TIME ‼️
Are you team Christmas PJs or team Christmas Socks? 🎄 🎅
⬇️ Let me know in the comments.

When it comes to our life spans, stress plays an important role. 💪 Believe it or not, our reactions to stress are designed to help us survive – it’s part of our “fight or flight” response. When we experience acute stress, a threat to our health, our body does all sorts of good things to help us get away from that danger or deal with it. 👏
Chronic stress, defined as a consistent sense of pressure over a long period of time, takes years off our lives. 🛑
👉 Here are some proven approaches to mitigating the effects of stress:
🥗 Eat a healthy diet, rich in fruits and vegetables. Dump your Western diet that’s comprised of life-shortening ingredients like highly processed foods.
🏌️♂️Exercise regularly, mixing both aerobic and weight resistance programs.
😴 Get plenty of sleep. Poor sleep is linked to many chronic illnesses.
👯♀️ Socialize with friends and family. Healthy social circles can help decrease stress.
💫 Meditate, do yoga, get a massage or practice deep breathing. All of these techniques have been shown to relieve stress. They can also help your brain.
👨🏻🌾 Focus on hobbies.
✍🏻 Volunteer and keep a journal about what you’re grateful for.
👩🏽⚕️ Finally, talk to your primary care doctor. She can help you with techniques to manage your stress. She also needs to know when you’re feeling stressed so she can help you protect your body against the damage chronic stress does. 💪
Comment below with the emoji for 3 things you do regularly to help you manage stress! 🥗 💫 👯♀️
