A leak down test is being performed on a 4-cylinder engine, and air can be
heard leaking through the intake throttle plate area. This could be caused by a
leaking:

A: exhaust valve.
B: intake valve.
C: intake valve stem seal.
D: exhaust valve stem seal.

ASE Instructor Training Conference Features Nitro-X Event Showcasing How to Attract Students to Automotive Programs

As part of its upcoming instructor training conference in July, the ASE Education Foundation will host a special Nitro-X demonstration event for conference attendees.

Nitro-X is a youth summer camp that was pioneered by the Minnesota State Transportation Center of Excellence to inspire students and engage the industry in the process of giving middle school and early high school students hands-on experiences in transportation career pathways. Using radio- controlled cars that are constructed over the course of the week and raced on the last day, students learn how vehicles work, build their confidence with technical skills, work in teams to develop life and employability skills and gain exposure to the transportation industry by going on tours of local businesses.

Peter Orlando with the Carquest Technical Institute will discuss what modified electrical demands and criteria are required for auto-stop and the inhibit conditions that will disable the stop-start systems. Additionally, he will explore ways to look at scan tool data to determine vehicle climate control conditions that are normal functions of stop-start technology equipped vehicles.

Employers can learn how to become a company account manager in myASE to easily track their employees’ ASE certifications, register employees for tests, and for employers who cover the cost of tests, pay for tests.

For service professionals, there are videos on how to create a myASE account and how to register for ASE tests through myASE.com. Downloadable PDFs are also available for these subjects.

ASE Supports SkillsUSA Mission to Develop Next Generation of Skilled Professionals!

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) staff will be on site and providing support for the 2024 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC) held June 24-28 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

ASE specially develops written tests for the six contest areas that are appropriate for measuring the technical knowledge of both high school and college level students. These written tests are administered to students at one of the skill stations during the national competition. The score each student achieves on the tests administered by ASE, plus the scores achieved for each hands-on skill station, determine the SkillsUSA national finalists for each competition. The top three finalists earn gold, silver and bronze medallions in recognition of their overall knowledge, ability and technical skills in each contest area.
