To attract (and keep) more tax & accounting clients and build the practice you've always wanted. www.youtube.com/@taxpromarketer
TaxProMarketer was established by Nate Hagerty in May of 2007 in response to increased demand for real-world relationship-building and profit-producing tools and strategy for use in the legal, tax and accounting industry. Currently, TaxProMarketer staff serves clients primarily in the tax & accounting world, but in a variety of other service professional industries (lawyers, financial professional
What if ChatGPT sent you better leads? That's not a hypothetical. People are already using ChatGPT and Perplexity to ask their tax questions, figure out what services they need, what to look for in a CPA, and who the best options are in their area.
By the time they contact your firm they've already done the research. They know what they want. They just need to find the right person. ๐ข๐๐ฟ ๐ด๐ผ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฎ๐ ๐ง๐ฎ๐

Your clients don't want to understand the tax code. They want someone who does. Even if they can ask AI their questions, they still need someone whose profession it is to help people strategize for their taxes.
Sure, there will be clients who choose a $150 AI-generated return over a higher priced professional. But those were never the clients who could offer long term revenue opportunities or put their trust in your abilities anyway.
You can't win out against AI software if all you're doing is trying to compete with automation on price or speed. You have to become the trusted human expert who can empathize and strategize for other opportunities.
Softwares enhanced with AI can process a return. But they can't be the person a business owner calls when they get an IRS notice, when they're making a major financial decision, or when they need someone who actually knows them and their situation.
That's your value. Is your online presence is communicating it?

Should your Google Business Profile description match your website homepage?
The core details (name, location, phone number, services), yes. Google uses both to verify that your business is legitimate, so consistency builds trust.
Where they differ is that your GBP description should be tight and hook-driven. You've only got a few seconds to give someone a reason to click your listing over the ones next to it.
From there, your homepage gets to do the rest. That's where you can unpack everything and share more about your services, expertise, and why you're the right fit.
When done well, your GBP gets them to click and your website gets them to call.

When was the last time you logged into your Google Business Profile? And when you set it up, was it actually optimized for local search dominance?
Your GBP is one of the most powerful tools you can leverage as a small accounting business owner. Not only is it one of the most trusted results in a Google search but it's also something ChatGPT and other LLMs lean into when showing local businesses. And a key thing to understand is:
So, here are six tips you can implement today to improve your GBP:
1. Complete every field - business name, address, phone number, website, hours, services. Gaps in your profile are gaps in your rankings.
2. Choose the right categories. Your primary category is one of the strongest signals you send to Google about what you do. "Accountant" and "Tax Preparation Service" are not the same thing, and which one you choose matters depending on who you're trying to reach.
3. Post regularly. Don't just set up your profile and never touch it again. Regular Google Business Profile posts signal to Google that your business is active, and active businesses rank better.
4. Get reviews consistently. (Not in one big push; consistently.) Recency matters as much as volume. A profile with 80 reviews but nothing in the last year tells a different story than one with 40 reviews and several from last week.
5. Add photos. Profiles with photos get ๐ด๐ช๐จ๐ฏ๐ช๐ง๐ช๐ค๐ข๐ฏ๐ต๐ญ๐บ more clicks than ones without them. Showing things like your office and your team helps build trust before someone ever contacts you.
6. Respond to every review - the good ones ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ the bad ones. This shows Google (and potential clients) that there's an active, engaged business behind the listing.

"AI is going to replace accountants."
"TurboTax is going to put your firm out of business."
"The tax and accounting profession is dying."
You've probably heard (or thought) some version of those statements, but here's what's really true...
People will always need an experienced professional in their corner. Someone who can empathize and truly understand their situation and their goals and can walk them through the parts of their financial life that feel overwhelming or uncertain.
Software might be able to file a return, but it can't be a ๐ต๐ณ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ฆ๐ฅ advisor. And despite its agreement oriented conditioning, AI can't sit across from you as a business owner when you're stressed about cash flow and actually see the right moves you need to make.
The tax firms that we see growing the most right now aren't trying to compete with automation. Instead, they're harnessing the power of it and then leaning into the thing technology will never be able replicate:
๐ฎ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐น, ๐๐ฟ๐๐๐๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ต๐ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ.

Sometimes at the end of our all team meetings we like to do a team building exercise to boost morale. Last week, we started playing two truths and a lie as a fun way to learn more about our team. Up first were Vladmir and Trinity and so many of us were wrong about which one was the lie. Which one would you guess is the lie?
