Summary: God is to be praised in all the earth. God’s strength is revealed in weakness. Compared to the vastness of God’s creation, humanity is nothing—just a speck in the cosmic drama. But God says we are Something! We are crowned with Royal Dignity and given a mandate of Royal Responsibility. How majestic is a God like that!

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! - Psalm 8:1

Key Verses: Psalm 33:22

May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.

Summary: In this first month of our discovery of the Psalms, we are challenged to recognize that God is not only creator of the universe but is also sovereignly active to reveal himself to the world. It is in this environment of a sacred canopy that we can live our lives with a faithful endurance rather than anxiety. These psalms invite us to focus on the God who fills the world with His unfailing love. As we practice trust and hope in the Lord we will experience his presence as our help and shield.

Outline:

I. The call to worship

II. Why worship?

III. Acknowledging God’s character and sovereignty points us
to....

Application: In moments of worry, fear or doubt, practice turning toward God by speaking a truth about who God is. Take a few moments to focus on who God is through prayer rather than on what your circumstances are. As you practice this, may you grow in your ability to wait in hope and trust in the Lord.

Key Verses: Psalm 14:7 ESV
Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

Summary: Psalm 14 reminds us that humanity’s deepest problem is not ignorance of God but the refusal to acknowledge Him, even though His presence is evident all around us. Yet the psalm also points us to the joy and restoration God brings to those who turn to Him. In Christ, we discover the peace, purpose, and gladness that come from walking daily with the One who saves.

II. The God Who Sees

III. The Cry for Salvation

IV. Life With God

V. Call to Rejoice

Application: What are ways I can more effectively acknowledge God’s presence in my life this week?
