Yesterday, Jake competed in tournament, and won 🥇 in his division. This was his 1st ever Jiu Jitsu tournament, and he was able to secure the win over his opponents without a single offensive point being scored against him!

Great work brother! As always, now that the data has been collected, it’s back to the “drawing board” for next time. Stay mutual and keep up the good work. Our team at SquareOneJJ is VERY proud of you!!!

It is with a heavy heart that we must relay a message that the local KC Jiu Jitsu community has lost a TRUE friend, Ray’von Haney!

We will be cancelling our regularly scheduled open mat on Sunday and joining at 11am on 6/14/26 to pay respects to a fallen member of our local Jiu Jitsu scene here in Kansas City.

If you can’t make it, that’s cool… but if you can, please use this rare opportunity to spread some support to a truly worthy cause (supporting Ray’von’s family).

Jiu Jitsu is bigger than just the roof you train under!

Remember, this sport cannot grow without a community. Be apart of something bigger than yourself or your team!

Yesterday, these two made the trip to Springfield, Missouri to attend the Robert Drysdale seminar hosted by (a proud Zenith affiliate) and it was an absolutely outstanding experience from start to finish!

Robert Drysdale’s career speaks for itself. ADCC Absolute World Champion. IBJJF World Champion. UFC veteran. One of the most accomplished American grapplers in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu history. Very few athletes have ever reached the pinnacle of the sport across both gi and no-gi competition the way Rob has, and getting the opportunity to learn directly from someone with that level of experience is something truly special.

But beyond the accomplishments, titles, and legendary status, what stood out most was the kind of person Rob is. Genuine. Humble. Open. Authentic. In today’s world, that level of sincerity and character is honestly rare to find, especially from someone who has achieved so much at the highest levels of combat sports!

Huge thank you to Team Fusion for hosting such an amazing event and bringing together a great room full of grapplers eager to learn and grow. The hospitality, professionalism, and atmosphere were top-notch all the way around!

We’re grateful for opportunities like this and excited to bring that inspiration and knowledge back home to Square One Jiu Jitsu Academy in Downtown Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

WELCOME BACK TO SQUARE ONE, 💪

Tonight we had the honor of welcoming back Alex Cuevas, CEO of , to Square One Jiu Jitsu Academy here in Downtown Lee’s Summit, MO.

Traveling in from Buffalo, NY, Alex made time during his business trip to Kansas City to step back onto the mats with us and we couldn’t be more grateful. This isn’t his first time at Square One either… he came through last year, and it says a lot that he made it a point to come back!

At Square One, we believe in building more than just athletes. We build relationships, community, and a culture people want to return to. Having leaders in the martial arts industry like Alex spend time with our team and students is a reflection of what we’re building here.
