I know Saturday is 60's era for businesses. I would just like to say Patterson Pharmacy was started by my late father in 1966 in the old Leeds hospital clinic building. We are celebrating our 60th Anniversary this month. We moved to our current site in 1978. My father loved this community and all his customers . He and my mother put their life into that pharmacy. My mother was second technician licensed in state of Alabama. As far as I know we are third oldest existing continuous business in Leeds and the oldest pharmacy. My dad worked until he was 92 and my mother still works in her 80's. I have worked as pharmacist for over 35 years . We have truly seen a lot of changes and I can remember most businesses in Leeds from the 60's forward . I want to thank the community for supporting us for 60 years and hope when we decide what we are going to do for our 60 year celebration that people will help us celebrate. I hope for ones that can remember my dad they can remember how special this community was for him and have a fond remembrance of his willingness to help people. I hope we can always project the image that are customers are friend and family and Leeds is our home. Remember when we started there were no computers in pharmacy, nobody had been to moon, schools were not integrated, Leeds had hospital, no interstate highways , cruising in car was big. Nuclear strikes practiced under desk. I can remember interstate being built, my kindergarten and a field where grocery store is, Sinclair station and the hospital, plus Parker's , Brookwood clinic, plus a quick mart service station all within 500 yards of store. My dads store at time wasn't even 1000 square feet but he loved it.

I am asking this community and our customers and friends to please familiarize yourself with this bill. PBM’s control 85 percent of insurance market and are using unfair practices to put all independent pharmacies out of business. This help has to come on state level and is being voted on in Senate today in Alabama. Five hundred small businesses are being driven out of business by some of the most unfair practices I have ever seen. The misinformation these companies that made 100 billion dollars last year are funding and spinning is totally false and misleading. This bill only affects their bottom line not the consumers. It is not a tax and it is not going to raise rates. Other states have passed similar bills and the consumers and states have saved money. The PBM’s are trying to spin this as yes it’s a problem but it’s really just high drug prices that we can’t control. This is a blatant lie. It has been shown that they help drive drug prices up to their benefit. PLEASE let you senator and representatives know you don’t believe the lies and are for supporting the 500 small businesses in jeopardy. Every community pharmacy needs your help. We are a 59 year business and I’ve never seen anything like what these monopolies have done the last few years. They are decimating our industry.

(PLEASE SHARE) It’s legislative time in Alabama and two bills have been introduced to reel in Pharmacy Benefit Managers. These are the middlemen that act as a go between insurance companies and pharmacies. They continue to accumulate massive profits on the backs of the insured and small pharmacies. They say they hold down healthcare cost but that is simply not true. When has any entity that primary goal was to make money ever worried about controlling cost. These bills are trying to save small independent pharmacies that have very little power or control against these massive companies (three control 85% of industry) (one made 57 billlion dollars last year). If anyone cares about there pharmacy they need to help with these bills. A group claiming to be concerned citizens is claiming these bills will add 10 Dollars to every prescription. This is blatant FAKE NEWS at its best . NO MONEY WILL BE ADDED TO PRESCRIPTION PRICES. Please help the little guys. Call your legislators before powerful lobbyist backing these groups get to them like last year. Make insurance /PBMpay fair share to pharmacies and have accountability to consumers. An example of what bill is trying to do is combat spread pricing. Insurers pay for example 30 dollars for prescription to PBM and that PBM pays pharmacy 1.00 and pockets difference. That is correct acting as middlemen by government they can keep 29 dollars . I’ve been paid 90 cents for 90 tablets and I was suppose to use that to pay for bottle, label, overhead, etc. I’ve been in business almost 60 years and I’ve never seen such unfair abuse. Remember 1-3 pharmacies a day in US going out of business. Over 300 in Alabama in last few years. Support the bills. Help squash the lies . Do you want to help huge corporate executives or small hard working pharmacist. Below are current articles you can read. All in favor of pharmacy. Most other states already help pharmacist but Alabam has powerful lobbies supported by Blue Cross, CVS, and Alabama Power to name a few
