Early voting starts today in Russell County for the August 4th Primary!
📍 Russell County Registrar’s Office
96 Russell Street, Lebanon, VA 24266
🕗 Open Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
Make sure you’re prepared and have a plan to vote!
We are fortunate this year to have a choice among three candidates on the Democratic ballot:
Joy Powers for Congress
Adam Murphy for US House
Douglas Crockett, for House of Representatives Southwest Virginia - VA-09
Take the time to learn about each candidate, understand where they stand on the issues, and choose the one you believe has the best chance to take on Morgan Griffith in November. The one you trust to fight for our communities and the future we need.
Once the primary is over, we all have to come together behind the Democratic nominee and work to defeat Morgan Griffith for the future of our democracy.
If you haven’t made up your mind yet, there are upcoming candidate forums where you can hear directly from the candidates and learn more about their priorities:
📅 Wednesday, June 24, at 7:00 PM
📍 Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center, Abingdon
Hosted by the Washington County Democrats
📅 Thursday, July 16, at 6:30 PM
📍 Tazewell County Fairgrounds
Hosted in partnership with the Russell, Tazewell, Buchanan, and Bland County Democratic Committees.
In a primary election, your vote matters even more because turnout is unfortunately very low. Don’t sit this one out. Make a plan, get informed, and participate in our democracy.
Every vote counts.

Come see us at Cedar Fest tonight and tomorrow! We have free popcorn, stickers, and candy!
The Russell County Democratic Committee is union strong and union proud. Many of our members belong to unions or come from a union family. We understand first hand the power of collective bargaining and the importance of worker solidarity. We stand firmly with the thousands of public employees, including teachers, firefighters, home care workers, and many more state and local employees, who deserve but now have been denied the right to collectively bargain with the recent veto of legislation by Governor Abigail Spanberger.
Despite campaigning on a platform of affordability and lifting up working Virginia families, Governor Spanberger betrayed the values that the Democratic Party should be fighting harder than ever to protect with this veto. We call on Governor Spanberger to listen to the voices of working Virginians, the labor movement, and the members of the Democratic Party of Virginia who elected her, and sign collective bargaining legislation into law as soon as possible.
We commend the patrons of the public employee collective bargaining legislation, Senator Scott Surovell and Delegate Kathy Tran, and all the Democrats who unified to pass these bills in the General Assembly.
