Miles That Matter

Five years ago today, we lost a wonderful man to cancer. Jared was an amazing son, brother, friend, and therapist. We miss his kindness, friendliness, laugh, and his loyalty (especially to the Bengals--he watched every game...and this was before the Joe Burrow era!!)

Miles That Matter has been raising money for a memorial fund in honor of Jared. We are happy to report that so far we have raised 22,000 dollars! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to everyone who has donated so far! Because of your generosity, we're one step closer to building a playground in his memory--a place filled with joy and laughter, just like Jared was. Our goal is get to 50,000 dollars and we will begin looking for land, grants, and corporate sponsors to help create a gathering place for family and friends to remember Jared.

We appreciate your support and hope you will continue to support our efforts in making this dream a reality. We miss Jared every day, but hope to carry his memory forward in a way that reflects who he was. Stay tuned for our next fundraising adventure!

Flying for Jared 2025: Running a 10K + Skyline 4 Way Challenge with extra cheese!! We still need your help to reach our goal of raising 10,000 dollars!!

Alisha and Karen will be lacing up their running shoes and taking on Flying Pig events in memory of Jared Smith, who passed away from cancer in 2020.

To keep his spirit alive, we're raising funds to build a community playground. Every step we run and every dollar we raise will help bring us closer to to creating something beautiful in Jared's memory.

We're baaaaack! With Flying Pig Marathon 2025 weekend just around the corner, it's time to bring this page back to life and get the word out about our ongoing fundraising efforts.

We are continuing to raise money in honor of Jared Smith, who passed away from colon cancer in 2020. His kind, playful spirit has inspired us to create something lasting in his memory: a children's playground. The funds we raise will go towards creating a space in Jared's honor that will bring joy to children and families for years to come.

Jared's aunt, Karen Cosgrove, the founder of Miles That Matter, and Jared's sister, Alisha Smith, will be participating in Flying Pig events this weekend in Jared's honor.
