Hi Alex,

A follow up to let you know we have installed the board in the studio and the owner is loving it! Pic attached. The owner is very happy with the sound and operation of the board. We are both very appreciative of your openness to sharing mods via the manual. It has been very helpful in completing needed work to make it sound great.

Thank you so much for your assistance through our process,
Jacob

Holy Fire 9 Revisited.... 03/06/2026

The Holy Fire 9 revisited — dubbed "The Centaur Slayer" by players who know. Given the heart of a Holy Fire classic and the power of a Grizzly Bass, this HF9 overdrive/distortion pedal puts pro audio power and vacuum-tube mojo into a 9V stomp box. Read the full story behind the tone and the mad science that made it happen: https://wix.to/NNDpPyu

Holy Fire 9 Revisited.... "9 were gifted to the race of Men, who above all else desire power"Seven years after the Holy Fire debut, three years in development, one pedal comes to rule them all. Genetically spliced with the heart of a Holy Fire Classic and the power of a Grizzly. The long awaited Holy Fire 9 overdrive distort...

"I recently bought a Holy Fire 9 pedal second hand. This pedal is great. Nothing like this, much better than klon centaur for sure.

But i think its underrated. Because not many people in Japan know about this pedal, and it's hard to find in stores, so it's difficult to buy.

I don't know who invented this pedal, but he's a genius. I will tell as many people as possible about how great this pedal is.

The Holy Fire 9v was so great, so I wanted to get the Holy Fire Classic as well ... This pedal is a truly great product, ...

In particular, in Japan's living environment, it's rare to be able to play large amps at high volumes, so I'm sure many players will be impressed by this groundbreaking pedal, which brings out the potential of small amps (and of course large amps too!) and creates a very natural overdrive that sounds just like a tube amp at a good volume.

So, with this pedal, you don't have to worry about what amps the house has when you play a show.

Also, I think the LED lamp gimmick is more than just a gimmick; it gives you a visual indication that the pedal is sensing the strength of the signal. It's an interesting effect that makes the pedal seem almost like a living thing."

Geek time! Working on a Tascam 58-OB, 1/2” 8 track reel to reel tape machine. Totally recapping, cleaning, and alignment.

The RCA connectors on the back had been stressed, and fractured the PCB. The owner found a replacement PCB made by [email protected]. It comes as a blank PCB.

We had to move the right-angled headers and wires from the old PCB, but installed new parts for all the rest. Then we ran into the Omron LAB2L-12V DPST relays used to mute the outputs during power up.

They are hard to find. I could only find “used” ones salvaged from old gear. So we made this adapter to fit a modern relay.

For some reason Tascam opted to use a 12V relay, powered (through a resistor) from the 24V rail. I thought about just using a 24V relay, but decided to stick with 12V thinking perhaps they had a reason. Maybe to isolate the inductive kick of the relay? That said, we also changed the value of the resistor to match the DC resistance of the new relays to divide the voltage to 12V. Enjoy the pictures.

Ai1 (All-in-one) Buffer Jack - PRO TIP!

When you daisy-chain the power to multiple buffers in a DIY Buffer Box, I recommend wiring all the buffers directly to the DC Jack. But did you know there is now a set of switched power pads on the Ai1?

The switched power pad is provided to turn "on" when there is a cable plugged in, and "off" when it is unplugged.

When the Ai1 is installed on a Guitar or bass, the switched power pad is to provide power to active pickups or an on-board FX circuit.

But it is also handy for turning on an LED to show you that the battery is still good, and remind you to unplug your guitar. Here's an example

I’m excited for you to show us your ideas for this feature! Experiment, have fun and tag us when you post about it!

Cheers!
Alex
