Here are just a few things to keep in mind when making your decision:

Mentoring: Is the breeder able to answer questions you may have along the way? Are they able to provide a working relationship, or is it done once the sale is complete?

Knowledge: How much experience does the breeder have? Are they able to provide further insight into owning this breed?

Future Breeding Stock: Can this breeder provide you with more sheep in the future? If you’re breeding ewes, do they have rams available?

Reputation: Does the breeder have a reputable history? Are there personal accounts from previous buyers who are happy with their purchase?

Location: Is the breeder in close proximity to you? Would you be able to pick the sheep up yourself or would it need to be transported?

Documentation: Does the breeder have all of the required documentation? Are they able to share that with you?

Be sure to ask your breeder and yourself these questions when choosing who to buy from!
