Chief Minton recently awarded his Chief’s Coin to Amy Boyd and Melissa Schaefer for going above and beyond for a community member in need.
Their compassion, professionalism, and willingness to step in without hesitation truly reflect our Service First approach.
Amy and Melissa showed what our values Service, Excellence, Accountability, and Engagement look like in real life, and we’re grateful for the impact they made.
The Chief’s Coin, a tradition inspired by military challenge coins, is given to team members who step up in meaningful ways. It’s Chief Minton’s way of recognizing those moments of exceptional service and leadership.
Please join us in congratulating Amy and Melissa on this well‑deserved recognition!
We passed the ball around the department, but the real goal is simple: stay safe.
If you’re heading to World Cup watch parties or celebrations, plan ahead.
• Arrange a sober ride
• Use a rideshare
• Pick a designated driver
• Look out for your friends
Don’t score a DWI. Drive Sober.

🐾 Foster Needed! 🐾
Leander Animal Services is looking for a temporary foster home for a sweet female mixed-breed dog that was recently found in our community.
Unfortunately, she was not wearing identification and does not have a microchip, so we are currently working to locate her owner. In the meantime, we’d love to keep her in a comfortable home environment rather than a shelter setting.
This foster opportunity is through the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter’s Finder2Foster Program. The shelter will provide necessary vaccinations during the foster period, and Leander Animal Services can provide a kennel if needed.
If you’re interested in helping this sweet girl while we search for her family, please contact Leander Animal Services at 512-528-2800.
Fostering saves lives and helps pets stay happy and comfortable while they wait to be reunited with their owners. ❤️🐶

The Leander Police Department is investigating an assault that occurred on May 24, 2026, at approximately 7:47 p.m. Officers responded to the 600 block of Los Robles Road after reports that a juvenile in a vehicle had fired gel‑blaster rounds at other juveniles in the area.
Two 12‑year‑old girls were riding their scooters when a beige sedan drove past and a passenger fired multiple rounds from a gel‑blaster style gun. The passenger was observed sitting on the front passenger window frame and pointing an orange and green gel blaster over the roof of the vehicle. One victim was struck on the left cheekbone just below her eye, and the other was hit in the chest.
Detectives with the Leander Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division have identified the juvenile suspects involved, and the investigation remains ongoing. No additional details will be released at this time.
The Leander Police Department reminds the community that gel blasters and similar devices can cause injury and may result in criminal charges when used irresponsibly.
