Old Dog Young Bull
New Wave meets Old School!
Charlie "Young Bull" Forester and Joe "Old Dog" Mayes present a multi-media discussion of all things sports (with a touch of pop culture, an occasional smidge of politics, and the odd conspiracy theory).
Old Dog needs this on the record...
I picked the Seahawks to win today's Big Game™️, 28-21.
But I can't get this nagging feeling out of my gut.
I had this gut feeling the past two weeks that New England could surprise the world.
But running all the scenarios through my logic, I couldn't see a way for them -- rationally -- for them to take out Seattle.
But still...
Here's my problem. Tomorrow is my daughter's birthday. She would have been 33 on February 9.
She ADORED Mike Vrabel. Not, like, she liked him as a coach. She LOVED him...he was her dream man.
Despite the Pats having a historically easy schedule, somehow Vrabel won the NFL Coach of the Year, over other finalists who MAY have been more qualified. Guys like Liam Coen of the Jaguars), Ben Johnson from the Bears, the Seahawks' Mike Macdonald, and Kyle Shanahan of the 49ers.
He won it 4 days before Lauren's birthday.
So I think the thing that is nagging at me is whether or not Lauren is sitting on Vrabel's shoulder today, looking for chances to inject herself into the outcome.
So for the records, my brain continues to believe the 'Hawks will win 28-21. My heart equivocates somewhat, wondering if the New England running game and super soph quarterback Drake Maye will show up large in the big game.
My memory of Lauren, however, screams at me to never doubt Mike Vrabel.
And never doubt her ability to impose her will wherever she chooses.

We've reached the end of the 2025 NFL season and Joe "Old Dog" Mayes and Charlie "Young Bull" Forester are ready to put a bow on things in this mega-episode!
The highlight of the episode is bringing back the All-Old Dog (28 and older) and All-Young Bull (24 and younger) teams! For the first time since 2020, Joe and Charlie pick their rosters...it's no surprise the starting QBs also show up in the NFL MVP race.
Joe and Charlie both finished over 60% for the season, with Joe eeking out a small victory, 0.627 to 0.617. Charlie has a chance to close the gap by correctly picking the Super Bowl L(I)X winner, but Joe takes the crown for the 2025 season.
Charlie offers an angry analysis of the Mavs Anthony Davis trade before the Boys break down the Pro Football Hall of Fame selections (and snubs). The also make their predictions of the NFL Honors awards. (Spoiler alert: they each picked 3 correctly and between the two of them, nailed 5 of the 6 categories).
Finally, Joe bemoans the fact that Bill Simmons correctly predicted the Patriots' success, before the official Old Dog Young Bull analysis of the Big Game. They make their Super Bowl picks and share the family's thoughts on the big game.
After this week, the duo pivot to the NBA season though, as Charlie says, "The NFL is never out of season..."

E21 2025: Super Bowl Week! Old Dog Young Bull · Episode
01/29/2026
Snow and ice has had us hunkered down so no 'cast this week.
The fellas are preparing their 2025 All-Young Bull and All-Old Dog rosters -- and their Super Bowl picks -- for next week. So now's the time to get caught up on past episodes as the 2025 NFL season winds to a close.

First Shedeur in the Pro Bowl, now this.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame is no longer credible.
I'll be taking no questions. And don't come at me with Spygate and Deflategate. This is purely a reflection of the fact that sportswriters are butthurt that Belichick didn't kiss their pads and pens.
Absurd.

In case anyone still believed in the credibility of the Pro Bowl...
Young Bull nailed this call...recorded ~12 hours before the actual announcement.
Well done, Charlie!

Charlie and Joe took Christmas Eve off, not recording an episode of Old Dog Young Bull. They also didn't make any picks.
Consider week 17 their Bye week.
They're not back with a podcast New Year's Eve, but they are back with their week 18 picks. Charlie remains 2-one-thousandths ahead of Joe, at 0.627 to 0.625 for the season.
Even with a perfect final week of the regular season, the highest Joe can get is 0.649, a hair short of his goal of 65% for the season.
Charlie, on the other hand, would finish the year at 0.651 if he runs the table this week.
Can he do it?!?
The fellas will be back in the studio before week 1 of the playoffs. Subscribe now to be notified when new 'sodes drop!
