May 1st marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Month in the US, observed annually since 1949 to break stigma, support those with mental illnesses, and promote wellness. Organizations like SAMHSA and Mental Health America (MHA) use this month to share resources, advocate for better policies, and encourage public conversation.

🐶🐱Since 1988, there has been an institution here in Leander called the Central Texas SPCA, a small nonprofit adoption center, doing the good work of rescuing cats and dogs.🐶🐱
In June of 2025, a new foundation was poured for an expansion of that facility. I sat down with the president of the board, Heather Gandy, to talk a little bit about what's going on with Central Texas SPCA and how you can here in Leander help them close the gap on their fundraising efforts. �
