Governor Sherrill Signs Proclamation Designating April 2026 as Second Chance Month in New Jersey 04/16/2026

April Is Second Chance Month in New Jersey!

Governor Mikie Sherrill has designated April 2026 as Second Chance Month in New Jersey. Recognizing that the consequences of a criminal conviction contribute to recidivism and an increase in crime and threaten public safety, Second Chance Month builds awareness about the need for closure for those who have paid their debt to society. "Successful re-entry is about more than just leaving prison," the governor writes, "It is about being welcomed back with real opportunities to work, contribute, and rebuild." It's a reminder that people are more than their worst mistake.

Governor Sherrill Signs Proclamation Designating April 2026 as Second Chance Month in New Jersey TRENTON – Governor Mikie Sherrill today signed a Proclamation designating April 2026 as Second Chance Month in New Jersey.

On April 2, 2026, members of The WorkWell Partnership joined staff, supporters, and community leaders to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of the new Hanover Creative Gallery space at 219 East Hanover Street in the Creek to Canal District of Trenton.

We were honored to be there as Hanover Creative welcomed Mayor Reed Gusciora, Councilwoman Crystal Feliciano, and other local officials and friends to mark this exciting milestone.

Both WorkWell and Hanover Creative Gallery now call 219 East Hanover home—WorkWell on the third floor and the gallery on the ground floor. Together, we share a vision of fostering hope, growth, and connection in our community.

The Hanover Creative Gallery will host a variety of events and activities designed to bring people together and contribute to the ongoing revitalization of the Hanover Street area. Meanwhile, WorkWell continues to provide comprehensive programming and support that empowers justice-involved and formerly incarcerated individuals to secure employment and build stable, meaningful lives.

We’re excited about what’s ahead and proud to partner with Hanover Creative in strengthening our community.
