Today, I had the opportunity to attend the Lunch & Learn Program focused on su***de prevention, de-escalation, and community support.
We are always committed to expanding our knowledge and strengthening our skills so we can better serve individuals and families in our community.

The presentations on de-escalation techniques, su***de prevention, and crisis response provided valuable tools that will help us continue supporting people with compassion, understanding, and lived experience.

We are grateful for opportunities like this that allow us to learn from community partners and grow as peer supporters and advocates.

Thank you to all of the presenters and organizations that shared their expertise today. Collaboration, education, and ongoing learning are essential to building a stronger, healthier community for everyone.

Rest Days Are Essential 💙

I had to unlearn the idea that rest meant I was being lazy.

For a long time, being busy felt safe. If I kept moving, working, helping others, or staying distracted, I didn’t have to sit with the thoughts and feelings waiting underneath.
The truth is, slowing down felt scary.

When you’ve lived in survival mode for years, rest isn’t always restful at first. It can feel uncomfortable, unfamiliar, and even overwhelming.

Learning how to quiet my mind, be present with myself, and process what I was carrying took practice.

Rest is not giving up.
Rest is not weakness.
Rest is not laziness.

Rest is a skill. It’s part of healing.

I’ve made a lot of progress, but it still takes intention. Some days that means taking a nap, sitting by the water, going for a gentle walk, breathing deeply, or simply giving myself permission to do less.

If you’re on your own healing or recovery journey, remember: you do not have to earn rest. Your mind and body deserve care, too! ❤️

✨️We invite you to join us for another meaningful Recovery Wednesday as we come together for connection, support, learning, and hope.✨️

This month, we are honored to welcome Rebecca Bost as our guest speaker.
Rebecca is a Kansas Certified Peer Mentor (KCPM) and Kansas Certified Peer Specialist in Training (KCPST) who works at DCCCA First Step at Lakeview. She is also a dedicated member of the Peer Fellows of Douglas County.
Rebecca will be sharing her personal recovery journey and the experiences that have shaped her path. Stories of recovery remind us that healing is possible and that none of us have to walk this journey alone.

Following Rebecca's presentation, we will explore the topic:
"Coping with Mood or Lack of Interest Problems"

Together, we'll discuss practical strategies for recognizing and managing these challenges while supporting our overall wellness and recovery.

Lunch provided by Jax Project.
10-12pm Lawrence Public Library auditorium.

🌱Whether you're new to recovery, strengthening your recovery, or looking to connect with others who understand, we welcome you to join us.🌱
