Happy Labor Day Weekend from Bread & Roses. 🥖 🌹

Our name is rooted in an important moment in labor history. More than a century ago, workers in Lawrence came together to demand something important: bread and roses, too.

This was a women-led movement. Neighbors from across Lawrence were fighting for fair wages and better working conditions, as well as dignity and hope. They fought for the right to have enough not just enough to survive, but to live with joy, community, and hope.

That spirit is still at the heart of Bread & Roses today.

We believe everyone deserves and has a right to the basics, including good food, a welcoming and safe space, and help and support. We also believe everyone has a right to feel connected, valued, and treated with compassion.

And that work doesn’t happen just once a year. It happens every day, because our neighbors deserve bread and roses every day.

This Labor Day, we’re grateful for and honor everyone who carries the spirit of the Bread & Roses movement forward with us, including our staff, volunteers, donors, partners, and neighbors.

Food. Dignity. Community. Compassion. Bread & Roses, every day, for everyone. ❤️ 🥖 🌹

¡Feliz Día del Trabajo de parte de Bread & Roses! 🥖 🌹

Comida. Dignidad. Comunidad. Compasión. Bread & Roses, todos los días, para todos. ❤️ 🥖 🌹

AUGUST WRAP-UP!

Here’s a look at what your support helped us provide to our community in August:

🍽️ 35,313 meals
🧷 6,410 diapers
🧴 543 toiletry packages
🐾 4,890 pounds of pet food & supplies

Behind each of these numbers is a person, a family, a meal shared, a baby cared for, or a pet who was fed.

And we truly couldn’t do it without this community!

To our donors, Food Rescue partners, funders, volunteers, and Meal Heroes: thank you. Each of you plays a part in making sure food and everyday essentials are here to help nourish our neighbors.

Every meal is possible because we do this together. Thank you for being part of Bread & Roses. 🥖 🌹

Partnerships are powerful!

Recently, we connected with Valley of Hope Shelter & Recovery. We learned so much about their programs, shelter, and their team. There are so many people across our community struggling, and it’s inspiring to hear from another organization making a difference to help our neighbors who are experiencing addiction and recovery.

And thank you to the Queen of Connections, Joan Kulash / Community InRoads for making the intro. ❤️
