Lawrence Rotarian John Paul Henry, PhD, wears a special shirt from Uganda to our meetings. The shirt was made for him to reflect his work with Word by Word Uganda, an organization he started that improves literacy and expands access to education, helping children and communities build brighter futures through the power of learning. We're proud to celebrate the global connections and service minded spirit of our members. Thank you, John Paul, for helping bring awareness to this important work!

This year's Lawrence Rotary Club Philanthropy Awards recipients were Douglas County CASA, Inc.-KS and Friends of the Kaw. CASA will use their grant to build a pocket park for CASA volunteers, the children they advocate for and staff. Friends of the Kaw will use theirs for water education for elementary school children.

Thank you to longtime Rotarian Kate White for her informative presentation on her work as an Account Executive at CEK Insurance. We can all use help navigating the many ways insurance can help us plan for our families and futures. Great presentation, Kate!

Thank you to Kristin Eldridge with Snap Promotions for her generosity! It was an honor to recognize Kristin with a Paul Harris Fellow award at our last meeting. Philanthropic support from members fuels local service projects, like our school snack project, and our efforts to eradicate polio worldwide. We appreciate you, Kristin!

We're preparing for a new fiscal year for our club, and our new Public Image Chair Frank Ybarra, who has extensive PR experience, led a discussion on how we can use our newsletter, social media, and website to spread the word about our club. We're looking forward to a new year, more new members, and more opportunities to serve our community.

Over the past few weeks, we've been collecting unused foreign coins and bills to convert into donations to PolioPlus. This unused currency will help Rotary end polio worldwide. Thanks to everyone who contributed!

Last week we heard from our wonderful service committee. They plan our many service projects, such as our monthly volunteer appointment at Just Food, our Fall Snack Project, which provides snacks for kids in our district, and bell ringing for the The Salvation Army of Douglas County, Corps Community Center, and much more. Let us know if you would like to join Rotary, and make a difference in our community and beyond!
